Every traditional knife collection needs??

Finish the following sentence: Every traditional knife collection needs ____? a theme

THIS!

Some of mine were Collected, but most were simply Accumulated. There are others, however, that I Accumulated over and over until there were enough to make a collection. :D

What you need is whatever you like. Unless you're starting a museum of cutlery — and here's a tip: your spouse/significant other likely won't appreciate it if you do.

So get what you like, and ignore what you don't. No requirements involved.

LOL, but there are few other things worth collecting that take up so little room as a few hundred traditional pocketknives.

Image a few hundred books, or cars, or airplanes...

Our wives should be thrilled that we've chosen pocketknives. :D

Yes they should! But are they?
-any way I'm saving the statement in my arsenal of flimsy logic and hopeless excuses just in case.

Back on topic, please.

I'm gonna go with Duane on this. Direction is important. It's only been within the last six months that I decided to sharpen my focus and I feel like my collection can actually be called one now. Up until this point it was just an organised pile. :)

I'm still at the semi-organised pile point! ;) :D

Another vote for this answer. I was going to say the same thing when I read the OP, then I realized that Duane had already posted it.
My idea of collection implies a theme (or more than one) and a direction.
It can be anything. A certain factory/brand, model, pattern, handle material, year of production...yet a leading theme.
At least, this is my idea of collection

Fausto

Apologies Frank.:o
I'm thinking knives from overseas -UK,Spain,Italy,France, and ..oh alright then ..come on China get over here.

In my humble opinion you need a lockback like a buck 110, maybe something smaller. Then a barlow, then a stockman, probably a Case just for sheer traditionalness (don't think that's a word but it most definitely should be) and a case peanut, which simply has to be in yella delrin. After that a Case sodbuster Jr or full size.
But the most important thing is that you get the knife you want. I don;t have any of the knives above except for a barlow. I aim to get them at some stage but at the moment my barlow and SAK handle what I need.
Vive la traditional knife!

Every traditional knife collection needs a USA-made Marble's:

Oh, wait - were you just referring to those cute little folding knives? :D

Lots of money, at least one traditional slip joint pattern that you like, a traditional lock back, be it a Buck 110 or Schrade Old Timer/Uncle Henry or Puma, a Ka-Bar "Marine" (or Army) combat knife, Ontario 449 "Pilot Survival" knife, and a Camillus "Demo" knife, marked US or MARINES.
Oh, and maybe a souvenir knife from the state you were born in, and a novelty knife featuring your favorite super hero or cowboy, when you were a kid.
