EveryDay Carry 5.5 Inch Folder

I'd opt for a Cold Steel Voyager clip point in 5" configuration. You can probably find one new for around $70 or less and it will be a well made knife that can serve multiple roles. They just changed it up a bit with FFG blade and their "sanmai" steel so i'm sure the price will jump from the last model but i'm sure it will be made just as well. The new models will also incorporate CS's take on the back lock called the "Triad" lock. The Triad lock is probably the strongest lock on the market today. I have one of the Cold Steel Gunsite folders, the thing is a beast but it carries well despite its size.

I'd like to thank all of you for your assistance. It's been a fun ride. Keep in mind that I'm not a collector, and this is my first real knife so I consider it entry level. Although many of you had some sweet knife recommendations, I couldn't see spending to much money for something that I'd EDC and possibly lose. A knife to me is something I plan on using on a day to day basis, not something I'm afraid to use because it's to damn nice. And I have to admit, there are some knives out there that are to damn beautful, and expensive.

I went to a local knife store, and paid a little more than you'd pay online for it, but I'm a big advocate of supporting our local small business vendors. Yes, I could of gotten it cheaper online, but I appreciate that one on one assistance the clerk behind the desk offered.

I went with a Kershaw 1840 CKT. It's got the letters First Production on 1 side of the blade (1 of 500). The other side of the blade has 1840CKT, Patented, Made is USA APR 08 stamped on it. It's sleek, solid black and I'll get to LEARN with this knife. What works, what doesn't, what I like, what I don't like. That way, when later on, if i ever lose it, or elect to upgrade, I can make a choice on what I want. Thanks again.

Kershaw 1840CKT Shallot Assisted Opener
3 1/2" 13C27 stainless blade, 4 3/8" closed, stainless handle, locking liner, pocket clip, Speed Safe assisted opening feature. Plain edge.

In an earlier post you stated that you wanted the knife primarily for protection.

Then what about the Spyderco Civilian?

Click on the link below if you haven't seen its blade shape before. If you just take the blade out, the bad guy will probably head for the hills. Nobody would ever want to get cut with such a wicked blade.

Although it is not to be used for regular chores as it will void the warranty (the tip is very thin so it can break off easily).

It's too much of a bad ass knife not to own, even if you don't edc it :)

i would much rather have a 5.5" maxx (of ralph or cammilus persuasion) than a civvy, imho ya handicap yourself with a civvy due to the fact they are mostly a slasher with little (no?) stabbing ability, while the maxx will slash or stab and is a bit longer to boot, i've always thought the civvy was over rated, to a degree, admit they are a cool looking knife, and i've had a couple of them myself (couple or 3 matriarchs too) but have never been a "true believer" when it comes to the civvy's hype.

i can think of a lotta knives i would prefer to the civvy, for SD, EKI CQC13, CQC12, spyderco millie or Ti ATR, etc et al.

You will love it. I isn't a hard work knife for constant "in the hand working" all day long, but it will work hard. I like the slimness of the handles too as it makes it a great EDC.

Then of course, it is a Kershaw.

Great choice.
