Everyday carry vs everyday use?

I use a knife everyday

During the week I paint cars , use my knife for masking, cutting thin plastic sheeting, foam straps etc etc etc

I love the fact I can use the hell out of my knives

I’m a recent retiree. While employed I was fortunate to be able to use a folder
many times a day. Over the decades I purchased a lot of nice folders from
Spyderco, Benchmade and CRK. It was a lot of fun getting a new knife and
putting them thru the paces and seeing how they performed.

Now that I’m done working I’ve got about 45 nice folders that I struggle to find
a reason to use them on a typical day. Seems to be a shame to use them for
mundane tasks that I now find confronts me.

Ive started giving some away to close family and friends. Can’t bring myself to sell
any of them. probably need to start buying more stuff online that gets delivered in
boxes. :-)

I try not to laugh when I see someone using their teeth to open a package, or struggle as they try to gnaw the safety seal off a bottle of aspirin like a ravenous wolf chewing a bone.

But I do find it amusing. 😁

Personally, I think they're stupid. You can get decent knives nowadays with pretty good steel at a decent price. There's just no good excuse to not have a decent knife in this day and age. IMHO

I have a little SAK recruit in my pocket daily. Been there a long time and gets used frequently. It stays in the left fr. pocket. I feel wrong when I don't have it and a small pistol with me on my daily living. Knife, gun, notebook and pen every day, haven't felt the need for a flashlight.

I'd say everyday I use my knife for at least one thing. My flashlight is used many times a day. At work it's opening boxes, cutting zip ties, deburring parts, cutting an apple, etc. At home I have 2 young girls and I'm cutting things all the time.

I tried to wear pants without pockets the other night and after the 3rd time I needed a knife I went and put different pants on and dropped a knife in my pocket 🤣

I’ve never been without a knife in my pocket since I was 12. Do I need it every day, no. Do I use it every day, yes. There is always a task that ā€œneedsā€ a knife, from opening a package or mail, to opening a bag of chips or cutting an apple or other food. I just enjoy using my pocket knives, and I cannot think of a day where a knife cannot be used. I literally feel there is something wrong when I am flying because I don’t have a knife on me, and I always travel with check in luggage with a knife or two that can be accessed easily after I got my bag(s).

As K killgar mentioned previously, most of us are here in this forum not because we ā€œneedā€ to carry a knife or more every day, but because we enjoy carrying them and we will create that ā€œneedā€ if it didn’t present itself.

I use my knife pretty much every day. Gets more use at work. Then on weekends I'm almost always doing something in the garage or cut up the 30 Amazon boxes that the wife had delivered during the week.

I'll flip/flick mine open while watching tv at night too, drives the wife nuts at times.
