  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Everyone in the Becker subforum is awesome

Kabar camper, depending on which state you reside in there are different options. If you want to work for a larger department most of the time you can just apply with no certifications and they will send you to the academy themselves and you get paid while doing it. Most of the smaller departments, they want you to have the certs before applying which might mean paying to go to a private academy. The competition is very fierce and you have to set yourself apart either intellectually, physically or a combination of both..good way to prepare for most pt tests is to get an backpack fill it up with about 80 lbs of rocks and climb a stairmill at 60 steps a minute until you feel like you are about to die, then climb it a little longer. If you have any specific questions e-mail me at texaspridejb@gmail.com

forgot to add you have a written test, followed by a physical agility test, then an oral interview boards, then a background investigation possibly a polygraph as well, then an extensive medical physical then a chief's interview. you are ranked after that. Then if you are lucky enough to get the job you have a probationary year which can be tough on some departments, best advice is mouth closed, work hard, last to bed, first one up.

Welcome Tex! Man if your a fireman than get yourself a BK3 and all your firefighting buddy's will drool over that monster. Would be awesome to see that thing used by a real firefighter. Really would be cool. And than get The KING, followed by Machaxen, and a 5 for Clich sake.

Get a 3 and make all your firefighter and EMT buddies knees wobble! Then work your way through the remaining ones from largest to smallest to mediumest.

Yes, yes we are. Thanks for noticing.

To answer your qeustion, I'd go with a 5 or 9. Being the "camp cook" most of the time, I really need to get a 5 in my fold, too.

I would defintely get the 3 for work but they kind of frown on fixed blades and all, I carry an eickhorn rescue knife in my gear and a spyderco police 3 in my pocket and a leatherman as well, we have plenty of all situation encompassing demo tools if the need arises in the truck..from axes to prybars to sleges to hydraulic spreaders...:)

Everything considered, there are a few that aren't all that awesome. Murphy is borderline.

Haha. How dare you guys make fun of Murph and Psyop. You know they're serving our country right? Oh wait... :P

Anyways, welcome to the Becker obsession group. I'd go for the 5 or 9 in your place. I haven't tried the 5 yet myself, but clich is hard to say no to with his constant recommendation of the 5, and it does look nice and slicy. The 9 is a fantastic chopper, and far more nimble than it looks. Either way, you can't go wrong.

If you don't have a 2 - you won't get a lot of comparisons.
"Kind of a faster / slicier 2"
"Quicker in the hand than a 2"
"More reach than a 2"
etc
The BK2 is the foundation. Everything grows from 2 soil. If you don't have a 2, you aren't *really* in the club. (ditto 7,9,5,11,...)

couldnt have said it better get a 2 you will never regret it..... then a 9 then a 7 then a 12 ok you get where this is going

you need a 2. Its simply an unstoppable Beast! Especially in your line of work...never hurts to have another sharpened prybar! I love mine for demolition and ''rough'' work. ...and it still looks good. (or at least I think so) and this particular 2 has been through some Sh*t lemme tell you LOL

Thrill, how well do the 2's cut?

depends...on what u plan to cut and what kinda edge u put on it.

Mine has factory edge, just resharpened and sandpaper stropped...and it isn't a ''razor'' but it is sharp...I have seen GingavitisKhan on here make feathersticks out of matches with his 2...but I believe it was convexed.

it will cut a fridge up like paper if u use a 2x4 baton on it...jussayin

Brab did a couple threads on the BK2. If you're looking for a beefy knife that can handle SERIOUS abuse, that's your ticket. That being said, I'm going to be blasphemous and say that it's by far my least favorite in my Becker collection. Only reason I'm keeping it is because I think these guys would lynch me if I got rid of it. I'd rather roll with the 9 and the 16 though.
