Everyone Should Have One!

There seems to be a lot of interest in Rugers so I thought I would post a pic of one of mine. It has a 4 digit serial number
and still shoots as good as it did years ago.

yeah its hard to beat them ... and that old 3 screw you've got there ... I miss mine they are so smooth ... a beauty

I don't have a photo handy, but my selection includes:

Ruger Mark III
Ruger Single Six
NAA .22 LR
Beretta Bobcat
Walther P22

I bought mine around 1980 or so. I lived right down the road from their shop so it made sense to help them out. I had their .25 as well.

That Sterling is a great looking little gun. I have a Beretta Bobcat and I love shooting it......when I can find 22 ammo.

I had a Beretta Bobcat once with the tip up barrel ... was my trapline gun when I first started as a lil guy ... then from my fur money got my first Single Six ... I wish I would have kept it ... an old 3 screw model smooth and accurate.

I've got a new model single six I picked up in the '90s, that I first used on my trapline. I decided pretty quick that it was too nice for that, and ran across a deal on a NEF R92, so it's now my trapline companion.

No pictures either but I've got a Ruger Single-Six, buntline special with the magnum cylinder, 6" Ruger Single-six with the faux ivory grips, Ruger MkII 50th(?) Anniversary model with the faux ivory grips, 6" S&W 17 (?), S&W 41, 5" Taurus 941, Ruger Bearcat, Ruger SR22, and Sig Mosquito. And more .22 rifles than I care to admit to.

Now just tell us who your ammo supplier is! :p

That's an impressive collection you've got there sir.

I think you have all bases covered. Many years ago I had a Single Six I took to McGowen barrel shop in St. Anne and had a 10" .22 magnum bull barrel installed as a varmint gun for groundhogs. That was the best gun I ever owned.

Sounds like a really interesting project. I'd like to hear some of the specifics. Was the barrel cut down from a rifle "take off"? What did you do for sights? How effective was it and at what range?

It was made from a rifle blank, and used a scope, no iron sights. I could hit groundhogs at 75 yards from a rest.

I should clarify that. I could hit a groundhog size target (shoebox) at that range. I don't think I ever got one at over 50 yards.

Assuming this was before the release of the new generation whizz-bang polymer tipped rounds for the 22mag and with the loss of velocity you'd have with a shorter barrel of the handgun, 50 yards is a good "max" range. Groundhogs are tough critters.

finally found one! i have been looking for a while. we have our big gun show this weekend, and you can bet the single six was on my list. i got a heckuva a deal!

I am frantically looking for mine. SWMBO put my Mark II away someplace safe and I can't find it. Fortunately nobody else will. I also hid my Single Six .22 Mag someplace safe after my last divorce and it too needs to be found. I know it's here somewhere.

I can sleep with a lot of stuff eating at me. Not being able to find something is my kryptonite. I'd be up all night if I were in your shoes.

Good luck Mack.
