We're living in the middle of a witch hunt...," said Marilyn Wann of San Francisco, a militant member of NAAFA.

The association, known as NAAFA, holds its annual convention starting Wednesday in Newark, New Jersey, bringing together activists for social events and workshops on self-acceptance, political advocacy...

"I hope we can be a viable force of sanity in the midst of hysteria," said NAAFA spokeswoman Mary Ray Worley of Madison, Wisconsin. "I've found allies in all kinds of unexpected places, but overall there's a lot of animosity..."

There's a war on... and I'm treating the casualties - people whose hearts are being ripped out," Bliss said.

People want to fight for their rights, but there's a lot of shame involved," Steadham said. "It takes a whole lot of determination to stick through it to the end."

Walter Lindstrom, a San Diego attorney said, ""These cases are more difficult from a proof standpoint, and also because you're dealing with a very unpopular class of clients. Juries are generally disgusted..."

""The movement has found itself marginalized by drawing its membership and leadership from the far extreme...," he said.

So, my friends, what repressed minority group is now standing up for its rights?

Before I even do a google search for NAAFA, I'm going to guess alien abductees.

National Alien Abductees _ Association

I can't figure out the "F" in the acronym.

I did a search and I have to ask, which group are we talking about? The two at the top both gave me a chuckle. I know, it's not the sensitive thing to do.

Well, I'm going to assume that it's not the National Association of American Family Agents, so that leaves .......

Don't hate them because they're fat... Hate them because they're stupid.

On second thought, that would only start a new breed of victims. :grumpy:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Unashamed of their size, fed up with fat jokes, and angry at the national obsession with dieting, overweight activists are mounting a feisty protest movement against what it calls the medical establishment's campaign against obesity.

"We're living in the middle of a witch hunt and fat people are the witches," said Marilyn Wann of San Francisco, a militant member of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance. "It's gotten markedly worse in the last few years because of the propaganda that fatness, a natural human characteristic, is somehow a form of disease."

...

The convention comes as the movement is scrambling to counter federal government pronouncements that obesity is a "critical public health problem" costing more than $100 billion and 300,000 lives per year.

...

"Obesity is not a disease," insisted Allen Steadham, director of the Austin, Texas-based International Size Acceptance Association. "All this does is open the door for the diet and bariatric surgery industries to make a potentially tremendous profit."

YES, It's FAT PEOPLE now claiming victim status. They're victimized by fat jokes. They're discriminated against by airlines who force them to buy two seats when their butt won't fit into one. The entire medical establishment is in a vast conspiracy with the diet industry with support of the Federal Government in a genocide campaign to elliminate them. And they're now mad as heck and they're not going to take it anymore!

It kind of makes you wonder what the Buffet looks like at the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance convention. I wonder what the menu is for the awards dinner?

This is all just a part of the growing culture of victimhood in America. These days, far to many people derive their self-worth from their victimhood.

Not me, man! I'm not a victim. While everyone else can claim vicimhood and everyone else can shout about being descriminated against, I.... wait a minute... if EVERYONE else IS being discriminated against, and everyone else but me is a victim, then I am being discriminated against! I am a victim! I'm a victim of non-victimhood! They're discriminating against everyone EXCEPT me. They're discriminating against me by not discriminating against me. There're must be something wrong with me that nobody will discriminate against me. It's not fair! It's not fair! It's not fair! I have a right to be discriminated against! This is America! I have a RIGHT to victimhood!

I'm going to form my own organization: NAANBDA, the National Association of Americans who are Not Being Discriminated Against. We're going to demand government repression immediately!

Excuse me, now that I've discovered the cause of all of my suffering and failures, non-discrimination, I've got to go and start a website.

Okay, this s**t has just got to stop. I know that in some cases obesity is the result of an actual sickness but come on, at some point you have take responsibility for your actions. I admit I'm overweight, but I also know that it's because I overeat and / or have poor understanding of nutrition. I have therefore purchased multiple nutrition guides and will be getting back in the gym. Just my two cents worth, but all the social whiners get to me sometimes.

I am overweight, I admit it freely, but for me, not by much (I gained ~30/40lbs, then lost 20). Gained weight sitting around, between last job and early childrearing. Not excuse, just got lazy. But...I'm not a victim. Most of the overweight people around are that way due to lack of exercise + poor nutritional habits. Yep, some people have physical disorders/diseases that cause it. And, in some cases, some people ARE just heavy, even when they are in decent cardiovascular shape, etc...

When I hear about children of other countries drawing Americans as fat, fast-food lovin' people, I am sad, but cannot say I blame them. When we objectively look at America, there is a high percentage of overweight/obese people vs. most of the world. This isn't a worldwide epidemic of fat people. "There's too much food, everyone is getting fat!!!" "Please send money, just pennies a day can help buy weight loss treatment for an overweight kid in country x. Help a teenager get her stomach stapled today." (i don't mean offense to any person who has had this done. i have a friend who did this, and she lost a lot of weight. i'm just being sarcastic. ;) )

We are not "victims" of some fat DNA. At least, for a very high percentage of people. We ARE victimizing the buffets...maybe the buffets need a support group.

Just to support my claim to be overweight:

Before marriage and kid, 220-230.
After marriage, 230.
After kid and year at sit-down job 265.
Now, after year of working out again, 245.

Aiming for 220ish again. But, feeling good on the way.

Yeah...I'm kind of one of those 'tweeners. 5'11" - 235, 40" waist. Not heavy enough to make me miserable, but enough to put me more at risk for cardiovascular problems and certain NOT Speedo material!

Sorry, but I believe you're a heterosexual white male, and do not qualify to be a member of such an organization, much less start it, being the #1 victim of discrimination in this country.

If they are comfortable with their weight, how come they have to start a group to whine about it?

An aquaintance of mine used to say, a little harshly I thought, "there were no fat people in Belsen".

Andrew.

National Association of American Fat Asses :D :D :D
