Just curious about what everyone's favorite SAK is? I'm curious about why they are your favorites as well.

My 2 favorites are the Pioneer because it's a simple 4 blade reminiscent of a vintage BSA knife and the Super Tinker which has every tool that I need in a compact multitool.

Definitely the Victorinox Hiker,It was my first knife ever and it is still my favorite in terms of how much I have used it. It tackles every chore with no problem. I have cut through about 1.5 inches of branch with the little saw on it. Either that or the Recruit, so simple and useful.

+1 for the Super Tinker and Pioneer! I have a Wenger SI myself but I carried it all through scouting, through my eagle, and still today!

- 4 layer: Explorer Plus. This is probably my all-time favorite for EDC, though its a little thick. But you get used to it. All the tools I need, and I love the phillips that folds out 180 degrees.
- 3 layer: Super Tinker; nice complement of tools in a package that a little thinner than the Explorer Plus. I bought another beater today just to have fun cleaning it up.
- 58mm: The Manager rocks; lots of mini tools, including pen, in a tiny package
- 58mm: Classic. You know what I'm talking about.

The Forester for around the house and yard and in the woods. The Cadet is currently my default EDC for when I have to go into town or things like that.

I always have the Classic with me. Use it at work all the time; don't know how I got by without it.

It's amazing how it's just big enough to get the job done.

Spartan.

Nice size - ifts in a pocket with no bother.

 Victorinox Spartan. This is apparently the one used most often by MacGyver, and it handles most daily tasks well. I have added the Tiny Screwdriver that fits inside the corkscrew; the Tiny Screwdriver fits small screws on the frames of my eyeglasses so I now have the Myopic Bookworm Ultimate Wilderness Survival Tool.

I have six right now, and have had tons over the years. If I have to pick a single favorite, I'd have to go with what I consider -- pound for pound -- the most useful SAK on the planet: The Rambler.

For me it's the Deluxe Tinker and Mechanic. Always have one or the other with me. Also have a Classic SD on my key chain.

I always carry a Victorinox Safari Trooper for its robustness - best large blade, best saw, largest awl, longest corkscrew, lightweight textured nylon handle, and a lanyard hole that actually goes through the knife, not some flimsy thin metal ring. Out of production now, so I've stockpiled three or four for the future.

I also EDC a Victorinox Huntsman, especially around the office and at home - it has everything I need day to day, the scissors, small corkscrew screwdriver, and tweezers are my most often used implements.

I also like the Victorinox Farmer, especially the colored alox models. A nice basic package, I've given silver ones to each of the grandchildren, and have tucked a couple away in altoid tins and tackle boxes as backups.

Finally, I supplied each of our car's glovebox with the latest Victorinox Soldier, the dual grip one-handed one with the locking blade, large locking flat screwdriver, and a Philips screwdriver.

Oh, I've got a Vic Forester in my office bag that I'm getting fond of, but the Safari Trooper still reigns supreme.

I would like to say the Soldier/Standard Issue/Pioneer, but my fave has defaulted to the Compact.
The reason is that I am a scissor guy, and this is the thinnest biggest SAK with scissors. And it is so darn light in the pocket.
What I don't like about the compact is that it does not have an Awl.
So I am getting Syph to make me a custom Farmer with scissors, blue alox................aaaaaahhhh, perfection.

I have purchased about 6 classics for myself and family. I always have a classic handy. They are attached to key chains with SAK key fobs(sheath). I do not have the technology to show a picture of the key fob, sorry. My favorites are the Spartan(1) and the Super-tinker(2).

Seriously, I gotta go with dog on this.

While I do love the more basic two layer SAK's like recruits and tinkers and spartans, I have to admit the SAK I use most is the classic, and the SAK I give away the most is the classic. My daily carry is a classic in a lleather pouch sheath on my keyring, so I literally can't leave the house without it. I use it many times a day for everything from openingmail, to clipping and filing a chipped nail, to dealing with small flat and phiilps screws, to even on two occasions using the tweezers to pull a thorn from between the paw pads of Pearl The Wonder Corgi.

There's a lady who shows up at the local gun show with a big box of TSA confiscated knives. Most of them are SAKs, and a great deal of the SAK's are the 58mm's. The clasics go for 5 dollars apiece, but if you buy three the price drops to 3 dollars. If you buy more than 5 it's 2 bucks a pop. I usually pick up a half dozen or so when I see her, and carry them as give aways for folks who don't have a knife but are in need of one. I think I've given away a ton of the classics, mostly in almost new condition. Most of the ones in her box seem to have been carried but sled on used, only in need of a good cleaning. The classic is the gateway drug to pocketknives in general and SAK's in particular.

Ramblers are also good, but I can't find them as much as the classics.

Carl.
