Starting 2025 off on a bit of a wild note. Oknife Mettle 3. This guy just arrived off the exchange, and it’s every bit as interesting as its pictures indicate. A few reviews called the design ‘divisive’, and you can certainly see why. I think its cool looking in a different kind of way; it sure is razor-sharp right out of the box.

Just delivered this morning!
First new one in a long time, I was overdue. 😉
I'm a button lock fan and this one is unique (I think).
The button is in the pivot which pushes the flexible lock bar which runs the length of the clip side.
There is a magnet involved but all it does is keep the button connected to the lock bar, works well.
Solid and fidgety with a bunch of ways to open.
Happy so far... 👍

Had this for awhile and though of no immediate use to me it was incredibly cheap at $30 including tax. Described as a machete it is more of a very very heavy knife. Full tang, 5/16 inch thick and only tapering slightly a few inches from the tip, an edge bevel almost like an axe. This thing weighs 1.2 pounds - I don't think even Joe X could break it. Quite substantial leather sheath, and firestarter came in the box as well...

My last two purchases. A northerner from North Edge Tools & Northern Knifeworks and a Boker pocket muk.

The northerner is a solid knife. I wanted something that I could pocket carry but was on the heavier duty side of that with a good handle allowing for a full size grip and I think this is going to be perfect for that.

The pocket muk is just a cool little knife that’s a much cheaper production version of Gentry knives. I’d love to get one of his customs but for now this one will let me see how I like it.

Vosteed Mini-nightshade S35V
This last year I went crazy with these mini Nightshades ! Lets see ; two grays, two black and red ones , and a green and black.
I modified the blades on three :
First one I just cut the blade short into a box knife shape (but it has that great negative blade angle)
then . .
Think Straight Spine Stretch blade shape
then . . .
Tiny blade like an exacto blade. Even with that super light blade the easy open and close drop shut action remained.

EVERY ONE OF THEM VERY USEFUL, FUN TO OPEN AND CLOSE AND COMPACT TO CARRY. Some times I just clip one in the opening of my button up shirt between the buttons ( shirt pockets are full of other stuff ).
WHAT A WINNER OF A KNIFE !

I do a lot of unpackaging of new machines and opening blister packs etc. so I use the heck out of them.

And a Christmas gift from a fellow knife user and enthusiast. Had actually been meaning to buy one for a long time...
I have the 3V Master Hunter Drop Point version; I reground / thinned it A LOT thinner. (I'm more of a wimpy slicer than a bush whacker).
My favorite handle of all time !
The sheath dulls the blade but fairly easy to get a leather sheath ( even if you have to buy a thirty dollar knife to get the sheath and throw the cheep knife away).

NICE KNIFE ! 👍

This one is SK5 which I am prefectly fine with as I am a 1095 [good quality, properly heat treated] fan. I think the SRK is a sort of benchmark for factory "survival", SERE etc knives. The Master Hunter is also de facto right smack in the middle of the genre with a blade profile leaning more toward the many smaller, lighter "bushcraft" knives. The handles, and you can include the Recon Tanto here, are definitely very comfortable and practical. Grippy even when wet and more appealing in very cold weather.

These days I am a very reluctant city dweller so this knife, like my Becker BK10, is an "always ready" - for now - so the sheath is not a big issue. But funny you should mention getting a cheap knife and sheath just for the sheath. I have an OKC Navy MK3 Mod O and I have been hunting for a nylon molle sheath for it. Spec Ops Brand makes an excellent sheath of this type, but it's about $65(!). There are a number of molle knife sheaths for 5.5 inch and 7 inch knives, but only the Spec Ops Brand for a definative 6 inch.

Just realized this is my first knife for 2025 .
Flytanium Arcade /Demko I was unsure at first but scored this at BHQ for almost half off 😮
It’s a nice knife and feels great in hand with the Demko shark lock. It actually feels better in hand to me with the Shark lock fin not being as proud like the AD20. This one my thumb can step over or even rest on it comfortably. I also like how you can personalize it with handle inserts , standoffs even handles and the list goes on. I was not sure about the transparent tan inserts so also bought some CF inserts that should look really good on it. But it looks pretty good as is so I think I’ll wait at least a day or so to add the cf lol. Anyway very happy with this one especially for a little over 100 bucks. It does feel and look like a 200 knife which is what they normally sell for . Oh and it looks like it came with a black set of either Micarta or g10 or similar inserts.
