They make splash inserts for the wide mouth bottles that help to avoid those mishaps.

Yeah, I've seen those, but we're old & don't move fast enough for the water to splash. Heck, on our daily walks, the vultures follow us back the road.

They're Maxpedition Versapacks. I got one of the those when they first came out. They're handy, but mine hardly sees any use. I just can't tolerate a cross shoulder bag. Back packs & small fanny packs I'm okay with though.

Never tried a sling bag though that’s what my wife has been using since we started hiking many moons ago!!
