. . . as the guy in the window at the start of the movie Haunted Honeymoon says right after he gets knifed in the back : "It's not what ya think . . . . Well it's partly what ya think " .
I just received a Spyderco Sage 5 SPY27 .
Nowww I LOVE SPY27 . . . but . . .
Lets back up a bit . Back in October I got a Sage 5 with my furthest fantasy : REX121 blade steel , alloy , magicness !
Beings as I have an illogical aversion to orange knife scales I convinced my self that some Spyderco black FRN scales would be just "perfect" and I ordered a "donor" Sage 5 FRN knife for the handle to put my REX121 blade in .
At the time the black sage price dropped and that was what made it "perfect".
If I were to be completely honest with myself (which I never do (otherwise I wouldn't go to work in the morning)) and given all the money in the world (which would be unlikely if I were to never go to work in the morning ) I would have preferred to have the Cobalt G-10 scales like on the SPY27 knives .
Then (way back then ) I got an idea : I would put the blue G-10 handled Spyderco Sage 5 SPY27 in my online shopping cart and watch the price and when it finally dropped , like the Black FRN did , I would talk myself into buying it . Which would have been a gloriously easy argument .
. . . watch , watch , watch ,
nothing . . . still almost $200
. . . watch , watch , watch ,
THEN the tariff nonsense !
. . . watch , watch , watch ; OOOOH WAIT !
Mightn't the price now go UP INSTEAD OF DOWN ? ? ?
That little voice , you know the one that says DO IT ! . . . that little voice said : ORDER IT NOW ! (You know you want to .)
SUDDENLY at $200 I'm SAVING MONEY !
Just like that !
Did the swap today . Measured everything with a fine caliper . All the same between the FRN models and the G-10 models to the 0.05 mm ! Some measurements to the 0.005 mm !
Perfect , easy , swap !
Now I'm FINALLY SATISFIED !
Cobalt Blue G-10 scales and REX 121 blade ! ! !
She is soooo beautiful ! The patina I put on the blade on day one has a blue cast to it so . . . we are talking freek'in perfection here !
I already have a few stock Spyderco Cobalt Blue G-10 SPY27 knives including a Para 2 so it isn't like I am "rejecting" the great Sal and Eric's most excellent combination .
aaaahhhhh now I can finally relax and enjoy life as it was ment to be enjoyed .
PS : maybe I could have found blue g-10 else where but between searching them and worrying about fit up and having extra scales sitting around I just copped out and went the way I did. And I wanted g-10 not other material ; alu etc.
so that's my excuses .
HAPPY DOG !
Sorry .A pic would be nice.

Oh yes!!! Please do tell who made this. Classic all the way.
A newly found friend named Frank Otero. He had about 60 knives at a Native American gathering this weekend in SC Ky. I love the lines and it feels really good in the hand. I think he said the steel is 1095. It’s 9.5 inches long. Overall, the knife is about 15 inches. The handle is some sort of stag (not sure what kind). I had to have it when I saw it!Oh yes!!! Please do tell who made this. Classic all the way.
I remember those from way back... must be 15-20 years old? Nice condition. I have one of the boker ceramic black blade drop point liner locks from the same era
