Everyone's latest acquisitions!

It came. Axial Shift OTF wharncliffe CPM-20cv.

The good:

Smoothest action of any OTF I've owned or handled, though the travel is slightly long.

Dead sexy blade, great fit and finish for price point.

No glass breaker!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strong clip

Texture--somehow they made slab sided aluminum grippy.

No button play/wobble

The bad:

Blade play is more than my others, about on par with an Ultratech, but for $240 I wasn't expecting a deadlock, or even my Tighe. It has some upward play which I don't like.

Light spring, so a little easier to manipulate than I prefer. The opposite of my Manticore E.

The verdict:

My second favorite OTF. Despite the blade play, it's going to get carried a lot.

Of note:

Like my Manticore, I feel they could have fit a longer blade in the handle.

A full flat grind would have been nice.

The GEC Ironwood 88 showed up today, and the BM Shootout arrived on Monday. It's been a pretty good week for knives!

KA-BAR Becker BK2 w/a nylon sheath and an accessory "tin" (including a whistle and firestarter). Bought it because it was cheap, LNIB and could be used straight "out of the box" as a basic "bushcraft" kit that would make a nice gift, if I don't use it myself.

The tin fits in the outside pocket on the sheath but, if I do use it myself, I'd leave the tin at home and only carry the whistle, the firestarter and a small sharpening stone in the pocket. The regular BK2 comes w/a molded plastic sheath w/o the accessories or a means to carry them.

They sell some decent micarta scales for these beasts that make it a bit easier on the eyes and a bit less slippery of grip.

A GiantMouse ACE Biblio has joined the family! It answers the question of when is someone going to make a upgraded version of the CRKT Pilar with higher end materials. Designed by Jens Anso and Jesper Voxnaes, it's a small knife that has perfect ergonomics for my large mitts. It's a nice slicey blade that arrived with an extremely sharp M390 blade.

A great interview, with one of my favourite knife designers:

^^ Don’t ya love how the pivot oil bleeds/soaks through the Micarta? First time I saw that happen on one of mine I was like WTF, now, I think it adds character.
