Everyone's latest acquisitions!

Just arrived yesterday - Civivi Voltaic. I am really digging it: the blade shape, 14C28N steel, wood inlays (which are actually a darker brown color than the photo shows), deep carry clip, and perfect build quality.

Just got one of those Civivi Voltaic from Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley on the exchange, with micarta scales. Pretty slick knife for the price (but the scales are grippy :) ). I have 6 Civivi flippers and all have a nice action, and fit & finish. I do like 14C28Nin this more than D2 for EDC folders like this.

I am able to use the fuller to reverse flick it open, but the cut on my thumb wont let me thumb flick the fuller, and the cut on my index finger wont let me easily flip it (Thanks Umnumzaan). This has a better grip ergonomics than my skinny Savant, which is more of a gentleman's knife, and I like that the grips are a little slimmer than the Brazen. It's in the middle and just right, although I have a purple Elementum folder coming that might be even better.

As much as I love the Military, Ive never bought a blacked out model. This baby arrived today. If Vader carried a pocket knife, this would be the one!

Spyderco blacked out the liner and standoffs too. They used to leave them uncoated.

Darth Vader would have wanted your all black Paramilitary in Magmacut steel 😆

That micarta looks great. Is it grippy right out of the box, or did you or Gary rough it up to improve the grip?

Part of that was keeping with the joke about this but being a "slick" knife but not slick scales. I don't believe that he did anything to the micarta, but it's grippier than the G10 on my Civivi Brazen or Savant. This one is about the same as my green micarta Brazen, and grippier than my 30 yr old Spyderco C18P which is worn smooth. The G10 on my Brazen may be textured but it's harder and feels more slippery.

I do think that Gary improved the edge on the blade, not just because it bit me within 10 seconds of wiping the blade down. The edge is more even and polished than on my other Civivi, which are all sharp but not like this one.

Just received this Spyderco Brown G10 Native Chief M390 Sprint (C244GBDN). Wasn't sure I was going to keep it but decided to keep it for now.

This is my 3rd Native Chief and the 164th Spyderco in my collection.

The other 2 NCs are (from top to bottom): 1) the black G10 S30V and 2) the CF/S90V Sprint.

I generally do not chase "exclusives,' so you won't find any of the 5 NC exclusives (listed on Spyderco's website) in my collection but the fact that the NC exclusives come w/jade, red and orange scales made the decision to NOT buy any of them easy for me.

Nor will you find the orange G10 Rex 45 Sprint in my collection either because, along w/jade & red, I simply "hate" orange handled knives.

I also normally wouldn't keep a brown G10 knife in my collection but M390 "trumps" brown in my decision-making heirarchy and brown is less offensive to me than jade, red and orange, which is what has made me decide to keep the brown G10 M390 NC Sprint "for now." ;)

---------------------------------------

PS: I actually was surprised that both versions of the M390 sprint -- satin & DLC blades -- were still available for purchase direct from Spyderco, which is the only way that you can buy them. So, if you're interested in getting one or both of them, get them while you can.

Gotcha - sounds like the micarta is grippy relative to G10 but maybe not grippy to the level of a set of CPK unbuffed micarta scales, which are quite grippy and actually seem to get more so when wet.

That lanyard on the Military is exactly what I need, the slightly longer cord (about the width of my ring and pinky fingers together) and then a big knot to stop it slipping through my hand. Is there a source selling those, or did you make it?

Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley made and installed it. He will also sharpen knives and do the lanyards for a fair fee that includes return shipping, and can make leather pocket slips or belt sheaths for them while he has the knife.
