Over the years I‘ve rotated hobbies… I was last “into“ knife buying before the 2020’s. I ended up keeping 3 Chris Reeve knives and my pj Shirogorov Neon had become my EDC for over 4 years. A fantastic knife. Years ago I had put my name into the Grimsmo lottery list because I wanted the Rask (pre-v2). I probably have been contacted 6-7 times to buy a Norseman over the years, but I’ve not been interested in that knife. Last weekend my son, a senior in college, was visiting, and he asked to borrow my Shirogorov for some box cutting as he was going to do some pumpkin carving with his girlfriend. The next day I realized he had not returned the knife, and he is good at returning things. I asked him about it and he apologized but went on how awesome the knife was. I never talked to him about knives before or the value of the Neon, so he came to that conclusion about Neon awesomeness on his own. He said he could really use a knife. At that point I told him to keep it, but let him know it was quite valuable, so don’t lose it. I then started to carry my small Micarta Inkosi Insingo. It’s a nice little knife, but not the flipper the Neon was. During the week it came out of my pocket twice… the pocket clip is just not that effective.

Two days ago, 5 days after giving away my prized Neon which happened to be on 10/23/23, I got the email that my number was up to buy a Rask. I pulled the trigger on this one below immediately, with a born date identical to the date I gave away the Shirogorov. Despite it being one with smooth scales, it really sang to me. I took the email from Grimsmo as a sign. I’m looking forward to receiving my new EDC.

Game on... After a week my new Rask has arrived! This is the bigger, more talented brother than the Shirogorov Neon. I carried that beautiful Neon ever day for over 4 years before I gave it to my son a couple weeks back... the Rask is VERY similar, but launches better, has even better machining and the pivot and screw system is just more advanced, as is the finish. The Neon, did have M390 steel, vs. the CMP154 of this knife... but the jury is still out on the implications of that.

Canadian hospitality, as expected...

Unique green case... I like...

Last time the scales will have such beautiful color...

Clip very much like the Neon... which never slipped from my pocket in over 4 years...

Nice simple knife shape... less is more... no Norseman, and I'm ok with that...

I'm VERY happy with this weathered finish, not sure I have seen it before... (note small slice in thumb already)

First impression... No Regerts.

Enjoy that Rask, one of the best flipping knives ever made in my opinion.

I’m surprised you had issues with the small Inkosi pocket clip. A CRK pocket clip is easily one of my favorites. I’ve never had any issues with one leaving the pocket.

I’ve been trying to figure that one out myself. In hindsight, one possibility is I was not actually pushing the clip all the way down, because it is that ripple that actually secures the knife. With my Neon, once the end of my clip starts over the pocket edge it was secure. But now that I have my Rask it may be some time until I test the Inkosi again.

For old time’s sake…

It's been a bit over a month since I got my Rask and it has not left my side. It has been a fantastic daily carry. Interestingly, within a day of having the Rask the "drop-shut" started to get a bit of drag. I disassembled and oiled and still not 100%. I then realized it was important to hit the detent ball and track with the nano-oil, and all back to brand new. It then drop-shut flawlessly for a month when just a few minutes ago I cleaned the end of my blade with a touch of barkeepers friend, careful to stay well-away from the pivot. Sure enough. my first flip after cleaning and I got that little bit of drag that I experienced on Day 2. I spent about 6 minutes unscrewing and removing the back scale, wiped out a bit of dark residue from the detent track, added another couple drops of nano-oil, reassembled, and back to brand new. I'm very happy with this knife. It is everything the Shirogorov was, and then some. I LOVE the distressed finish.

Beautiful knife! I have heard the same thing from other Rask owners, the stop pin track in the blade is large (as is on the Norseman) and can collect quite a bit of "schmutz" in them. It is important to lube the detent track and the "ramp" on the lock bar insert.

Fortunately, Grimsmo knives are so ridiculously easy to take down.

Nice knife! The Rask is a cool pattern. I might need to get some nano-oil. Looks like it comes in 5, 10, or 85 weight, which one do you recommend? However I did run across a small fine-tipped applicator tube, so maybe I can just use my standard Hoppes #9 gun oil in it (when I'm not using the CRK flourinated grease).

I have a large tube of TW25 for my handguns that I have been using in my knives with great success. Makes anything with washers butter smooth.
