Evolution of Beauty

Even if anorexia and bulemias don't kill you, they screw up your metabolism so badly that you may never fully recover. That has been the experience of the women that I met in OA and elsewhere.

I never wanted to be a Portrait photographer, but of course there comes a time that the people you photograph aren't 20 something models with the aide of hair and makeup artist. When I have to photograph real people I never let them see unretouched pics of themselves. There are some quick fixes I do that I never tell them about. I'll knock off 10 lbs, whiten their teeth and eyes, remove or soften and bags or wrinkles. I don't make them perfect, but they're always amazed at what a great photographer I am. :D

An old trick I used to do when I needed a darkroom to make prints, was to print the portrait backwards. It never failed to stop the subject, they always felt that I had captured the real them. Of course they were looking at themselves the way they're used to seeing themselves, a mirror image. They don't normally see themselves in pictures that way.

Of course every once in a while people are just not happy with the way they look. I took some candit shots at Blade Show 2004 and one of the guys from BFC saw a shot that i took of him shaking hands with Ed Fowler. He thought it was cool, but wished he was better looking. So, I made him better looking.

Phil, where'd you get that shot of me to use? :D

Mr Otter, I know what you're saying, but I guess I'm reacting to the concept I've seen bandied about (not here, necessarily) that you shouldn't tell a child that they're overweight because they might develop anorexia. Based on the figures, I personally think it's better that they have a realistic assessment of their size so if they are a little chunky, they can start doing something about it.

LOL, I've been doing that with business portraits for about 20 years now. I always hear the same thing, "Wow, I've never had a picture where I look like me before!"

BTW - there's a reason why the image is reversed in Apple's Photobooth application. The images are mirror images(this can be turned off in prefs)

One of the prettiest ladies of Hollywood (to me) was Eva Langoria. I say a photo without make up and, well, let's just say she lost 4 points.

Amazing what make-up, hair, and earrings can do.
