I bumped into a thread a while ago in which the subject of adding a CF show side scale to a ZT 0450 was raised. I've wanted to do just that for as long as I've had mine and even wrote to ZT to ask if they might sell me one (they wouldn't). I didn't want the blacked-out version of the 0450 and the limited run ZDP model is both hard to find and pricey, so I needed a source for a quality CF scale.

Hackenslash mentioned an economical and excellently made scale from Chris at Nyfestyle, a California-based outfit that's a registered Service Provider here at BF. I followed Slash's lead and purchased the matte version. The scales are currently on sale for 50 bucks plus modest shipping. I ordered my scale on Wednesday morning EDT, it shipped the same day, and was at my PO coast-to-coast on Friday.

Installation took all of 20 minutes, the finish and milling of the scale is excellent, the fit was perfect, the blade came right back to center, and--after a little break-in--I think the knife even flips a taste better than it did when stock, which was super to begin with. Included with the scale is a washer to slip between the CF scale and the bearing chase as well as two black screws to attach the scale through the standoffs. The matte finish still has a little sheen to it that contrasts nicely with its flat edges and very clean chamfer.

I couldn't be happier with this mod to a favorite little knife and highly recommend Chris and Nyfestyle to anyone looking to upgrade their 0450. BTW, Chris also offers G10 backspacers in 3 colors for the knife.

My little guy is now the perfect companion for its big brother ZT0452CF.

I purchased one of these scales from nyfestyle when Chris first posted about them, probably a year ago. Awesome fit and finish, and a great value for a solid piece of milled CF. Added touches like the bearing washer and black screws completed the package. Glad to see Chris is still selling these. Two :thumbsup:

Thank you for posting. Like you, I want a CF 0450 but don't like the DLC of the production model or the extra $$$ of the sprint. I'll be looking them up.

OP, What's up with your pivot?

Thankfully there's nothing up with the pivot. I noticed that after I edited the pic and assume it's just the way light refracts off the shiny-ass finish on it. The dark areas toward the bottom on the close-up are probably just reflections of still-bare tree branches. You can see how the top pic looks different. Spring comes late out here on the Cape. :(
