Exceptional pieces

I regularly browse the sites of retailers, and there is always a mix of awe-inspiring knives, going all the way to the ho-hum style.

Every once in a while there are ultra rare pieces that show up (and obviously those are out of my range). There have been a couple recently that trully belong to a museum:

- Wolfgang Loechner integral sword (see at the bottom left of the page).
- Jim Schmidt Spanish fighter

Not to diss them, but in terms of rarity, they don't compare - at least in my experience. I have seen many Loveless and Moran pieces for sale, but the pieces in my post are firsts for me...

He is friends with Dave Ellis.

Loerchner continues to impress based on the fact he uses files and paper for almost everything. What a masochist!

The Schmidt is to die for. His knives have the "IT factor" that only a rare few do.

That Loerchner makes me pee in my pants. There's something about how the damascus inlay flows with the lines that I find absolutely mesmerizing.

I'm just curious: do the experts on here think that the prices on those two are fair?

(Not a leading question, I just have no idea whatsoever about knives in those ranges)

Wolfgang Loerchner's work doesn't seem to change hands too much, so I'm not sure myself, but I'd say that is a resonable asking price for that size of an integral.

Not to nitpick, but isnt that Loerchner Integral a fighter, as opposed to a sword? 10 inches seems pretty short for a sword.

It is beautiful.

The Schmidt piece knocks my socks off - definitely my kind of knife. Everything Loerchner does is superb. I'm fortunate to be able to see his stuff once per year at the CKG show in Toronto. I've not seen a piece like that from him before. Most of his bigger pieces tend to be daggers.

That Schmidt piece and Jim himself must have been a big influence on my favorite maker, Hill Pearce. That's unmistakably Hill's kind of styling. Or vice-versa! :D I think I'll ask him nicely...

That's the first thing that crossed my mind. I thought you would like it...

Thanks for the comments,Dan actually purchased the Loerchner from me.It was originally from the AKI and both that and the Schmidt are wonderful pieces.

Can whoever purchased the Loerchner please, PLEASE repost the pictures or take some more or something so I can continue to stare at it? I didn't have time to save them to my computer :(
