Excuse me, MAM? I’m in love…

Oh Doc…

I also had my ZT 0560, my Glock, and my OC.

This little knife is specialized. ✌️
I never imagined otherwise ! ;)

Nothing wrong with it , especially as a project . You did good !👏

Just expressing my own "special" paranoid survivalist bias . 🥷

Lol - this is a little embarrassing but funny so I figured I’d go ahead and share…

I just finished my meal and am still feeling the adrenaline from using the knife to eat. 😅

I’m very familiar with the feeling of adrenaline, as I’ve been a Peace Officer for 18 years and have had many “exciting” experiences in that job.

I didn’t expect waves of adrenaline to wash over me while cutting up an English muffin, but they came nonetheless.

I felt like an outlaw. 😂
For the real, though? Lol, nice mods and cool wavy forks that joint has.

scdub scdub you'd like the Antonini "Old Bear" knife...

You should have shot the muffin then... lame!

On a serious note, I bought two or three of those MAM knives (non locking versions) at a flea market once and ended up gifting them to some guys in Morocco who helped us get our vehicles un-stuck (sand if I recall correctly). During the time I used them, the did well but I preffer the roundish handle and blade shape of the Opinels. I got them very very veeeeeeeeeeeeeery cheap, that's why I got them.

Just catching up on this thread, nice mods.
I’m tempted to get a lock-less MAM and an Old Bear just to round out my budget knife collection.

I’d also be tempted to take the thing apart and make a new brass liner lock for it with a tighter fit.

Friction folders and slip joints are kinda my bag... It's good that there is something for everyone.👍

Slip joints and friction folders are all I carry. Don't even own a locking knife. My number 5 Opinel, the Sardinian resolza, and a Japanese Higonkami are what I carry if I think I will need a dedicated knife to augment my daily carry SAK or Leatherman squirt. I don't trust blade locks, so if I feel the need for a knife that will absolute not fold up on me, then a small fixed blade is carried. A lot of French, Spanish, Sardinian, and Portuguese fishermen and field peasants did very well for a few centuries with friction folders.

But then in this day and age, I'm still shooting and carrying single action revolvers, and side by side double barrel shotguns.

After reading this thread, I was spurred to go watch some reviews so I could see the knife better.
Evidently in Portugal it's pronounced like "Mom", as opposed to "Ma'am", which really changes the implications of this thread title 🤣

Yes, they're made in Maniago, Italy.

They also offer them with olive wood handles and different blade shapes. Never tried them, always thought they look good...might get one tho.

The thumb tab looks like you could easily close it one-handed.

Nice - Italian?

Interesting looking lock - like an Opinel, but you snug it down with that little thumb tab??

This thread got me thinking, what is "hard use?" Doing stuff with a knife that is better done with other tools?

This knife will cut with the best of them.

EXACTLY!

Hard use is a term thought up by the tactical knife marketers to inspire fantasies of taking out sentries, prying open tank hatches, and yelling "WOVERINES!" from high places.

Farm work is real world 'hard use'. Plenty of farm work has been done with Opinel's, Mam's, resolzas, and Higonokamis.

I like'em too.
Also from the same place (Palaçoulo in Portugal, where a few of these traditional knife factories are located), have a look at José Da Cruz knives (very Opinel-like)

I just watched a YouTube video about one of these and they look very nice. Have you compared the lock to an Opinel?

I dislike the Opinel lock because it rattles and is so loose that it will unlock by itself while being used.

The video I saw made it seem like the Jose Da Cruz lock is tighter - can you confirm?

I've got two XL Old Bears in stainless steel and olive wood. I highly recommend them! They're like a more refined Opinel, which is a brand I already have a healthy respect for.

my opinel is a slightly higher end model, using padouk wood... but the lock never rattles & was never loose, it's actually rather tight
it cost only a bit more than the beechwood & is much more resistant to swelling due to water

seems they're harder to find these days :(
