Hello knife knuts,
I used to have an Executive Edge. I loved that little knife and I would like to buy another one. Does anyone know the website? I did a search for 'Executive Edge' with no results. I hope they are still in business. When I was arrested, and spent the night in a jail cell in 1993, I had this knife with me. I didn't want to get caught with it when my property was taken, so I had to smuggle it into the cell with me. I wasn't caught. I have never known, and still don't know if it's illegal in Canada. Anyhow, I want another one. Please help.

Welcome to the forums!

Um... can you describe this executive edge?

By the way, I think you should know that questions of a dubious legal character usually get little respect on the forums. It is best if you tell us what this knife is, and then we can see if it is legal in Canada. I doubt anyone here will want to be involved in helping you find a restricted weapon, agree?

The Executive Edge has been discussed and recommended in this forum. I have read the discussions in the archives. What I did not see was an address on the net. This knife is pretty harmless. No good grip is possible. Here is a previous message: Review Request: Executive Edge Pen type knives
I have been toying with the idea of ordering the "grande" model. Does anyone have some experience with these knives? Please post or email directly. TIA.

And here is a response:

I've used one for several years I bought long ago. Sharp, holds the edge well, doesn't rust when carried in a thin shirt pocket, no play when it's locked open, clip holds it reasonably well fixed. Not all that ergonomic and you don't want to use it when you need lots of force, but controllable enough otherwise. Pretty good fit and finish.

I see no cause for concern. These are from the archives. Executive Edge must have a website. I just can't find it.

I had a feeling that is what the knife is. GinVideo used to sell those.

I do believe they are illegal in Canada. A tac folder with pocket clip from CRKT, like an M16, IS legal and is a much better knife. It doesn't look like a pen though, and I doubt you can sneak it into jail.

I'd suggest a nice CRKT. If you are looking for prison-sneaking weapons, I cannot help you, as I have no experience with that, nor do I want any.

This is interesting...I've been steadily going through the last six years of my TK subscription and today I picked up the summer '96 issue. Opened it up and what do I find? An article on Executive Edge Pen Knives. They are made by B&D Trading Company, 3935 Fair Hill Rd., Dept, TK, Fair Oaks, CA 95628;(916)967-9366.

I just skimmed over the article but it doesn't mention anything about legality except that it seems to be acceptable throughout the U.S. So my help here is in no way to encourage you to indulge in an illegal activity, I suggest checking out your knife laws before buying one.

It's not my intention to break the law, and since I am not a criminal of any sort, I don't need to worry about going back to jail, or sneaking weapons into jail. I have no prohibited weapons in my home. Thank you for the info. I will do a search on B & D Trading. I remember that name now. It's been a long time.
Concerning illegality, depending on the item, most police officers consider the person in question, his character, responsiveness, etc., when deciding how to deal with a possession issue. If you are found downtown in front of a bar yelling at someone with alcohol on your breath, and you have a certain type of knife, you are toast. I can't imagine an officer dealing with an Executive Edge in the same way as an automatic Benchmade. Looking at the knife, it just doesn't make sense. Crayola: you take things way too seriously.

Black Sheep, you're probably a nice guy but when you are new at a forum dealing with knives and your first post talks about sneaking a weapon into a jail cell, you did not make a good first impression. I know that getting arrested does not make you a criminal. A lot of decent people have a scrape or two with the law, especially when they are young. Still, we at Bladeforums know that the right to carry knives is under threat to a degree that is unprecedented, and the last thing any of us wants to do is to encourage illegal or irresponsible behavior. I trust that you are of good character and welcome to Bladeforums.

Actually, I'm a Christian. I just like knives. I didn't realize how it may sound to others. It was just a minor scrape with the law. I wished I didn't have the Executive Edge with me, but since I did, I had to deal with it somehow. I didn't realize how on edge many of you would be. Sorry.

The fact that the knife is made to look like something other than a knife could result in it's being a candidate for a "concealed weapon" charge under the criminal code.

That sounds plausible George. It just doesn't LOOK like a weapon. It LOOKS like a simple tool. That's what it is to me. I don't think the 'potential use' as a weapon gives a legislator the right to call it a weapon. Not even the manufacturer has the right to say it's a weapon. Who determines this? It's insane. It's for opening packages. You can't even get a good handle on it. It's made like a pen to be conveinient. How else should it look? Who can say what the motivation for the design is? I am not interested in aquiring an automatic knife, because that is clear cut, but that's another issue. Did NY gangs determine that an automatic knife was a weapon? What if you are working on something and your left hand is tied up in your work. You need a knife that opens with one hand. What's the problem here? Who decided that this is a weapon? Who imputes this value to objects? Who determines the intentions of others? Why is potentiallity even a factor? Does a man with only one hand have the right to carry a knife that he is able to use? Am I the only one who likes philosophy?

I'll tell you, as far as I'm concerned, even a real 'fighting knife' (if there is such a thing) is no more a weapon than a candlestick holder. A knife is for whatever you want to use it for. I'll admit, I have seen some knives that have no other use than fighting. Those are usually made in Taiwan or Japan, and they look stupid to me. I've never cared for knives that look like they are made to stab people. I don't understand the appeal. Knives by Buck, Benchmade, Gerber, Al Mar, SOG, etc., don't look like that to me. They look very useful and practical. To use a knife as a weapon, you have to be trained to fight. I'm not a fighter, and I have no such training.
