I've been intrigued by what little I've read and pictures that I've seen of the Spydie Executive. From what I can tell it's size seems to place it somewhere between a Delica a Co-Pilot. That would make it out to be a nearly perfect fit for my knife needs concerning office/work EDC. For any of you who have owned one at some time, I have a few questions. Firstly, how are the ergonomics? Secondly, how do they compare to more modern knives in regards to blade and handle materials? Thirdly, what would be a rough market value? I've been keeping my eye out for one on eBay and I'll be going to a gun/knife show next weekend so I want to have an idea as to it's worth if I run across one sometime. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Executive is a discontinued model. Also known as "The Spur", it is basically a scaled down version of the Pro Grip SS. There were some very short runs, having the Kraton inserts replaced with exotic materials (from wood and ivory to dinosaur bone).

Dialex, I knew that the Executive was discontinued. I think it happened around 1992. However, I didn't know that it and the Spur were one in the same. I saw one of the dinosaur bone versions for sell on eBay but it was waaaaayyy to expensive.

C04 Executive
C32 Spur(pro-ven style, 2.5ish, SS w/ kraton)

nope, not the same...

Don't have any real info on them though. Just the numbers and size range.

Actually, they are pretty much the same knife just delivered at different times with different names. My understanding is that the Executive (also known as the Clipette) was released much before the Spur. It was discontinued, but brought back as the Spur with some minor upgrades.

Here is a pic of one that I have (but it is already spoken for, sorry) between a Co-Pilot and a G10 Navigator. Hope this helps.

Thanks Revolvergeek. That is the best size comparison that I have seen. I am really going to have to go on the hunt for one. Don't worry about it being spoken for, to be honest I prefer PE for knives in that size range. Thanks again for the pic.

Glad it helps. I am the same way about PE blades. If this one was PE I would keep it. I like it better than the Spur that I used to have (did not care much for the rubber inserts).

trane_fan, I came by a plain-edged, SS, Executive by accident. I ordered a plain-edged Worker from a dealer but was sent the Executive by mistake. My first thought was "Crap!" (But when I came to my senses, I kept the Executive anyway and re-ordered the PE Worker which I received subsequently). The cost for the Executive was around $113 (shipped).

I like the Executive's size and feel in my hand. I don't have access to it right now but I think the handle has a "rounded" edge which is quite a different feel from the "squared-off" edge around the handle of most SS Spyderco knives today. I'm not sure if the Spur had a kraton insert but my Executive is straight SS only. The blade profile is different from that of the Navigator and the Mouse; I think it is a useful design that should have consideration for a comeback.

Finally, sorry to keep you waiting but in case you're interested the dealer was A.G. Russell. Great service and nice people there. If I recall correctly my purchase was one of three they had on hand. Earlier I directed someone else searching for an Executive to A.G. Russell; if you're lucky there may be one more there waiting for you. I hope this helps.

No wait, maybe it was the other way around: "squared-off" edges on the Executive's handle rather than the "beleveled" edge on today's SS handles. I'll have to pull it out of storage and check it to make sure. Sorry. :o
