Exotac matchcap

I really like this one even more now. I like the idea that a line can be attached and used as weight for a throw line. Sand could even be added as ballast etc. Very cool indeed! I cant do that with my plastic doohickey!

It's type 2 then.

The smaller O-ring is the spare i ordered for the nanostriker, they are just in the same ziploc bag and I didn't think to separate them...my bad.

That's the one I was trying to think of last night, thank you, I've had far too much cold medicine lately but it's the only thing keeping me up and moving :)

Yeah, I almost threw my plastic on away...then decided since it was a container I could still find a use for it.

I wrote EXOTAC with some questions and talked to Rob about this. This is what he said......

"the MATCHCAP was actually designed around the REI stormproof matches. It will fit 12 if you put 11 facing down and one up."

I suppose I need to order some of these for myself, do they burn as well as the NATO Life Boat matches?

They burn just as well, if not better with the added benefit of not requiring the more percussive strike and drag that the NATO British Lifeboat Matches do. You simply drag the REI matches like a regular match.

Then I definitely need to order some, thanks. I like how the NATO matches burn but striking them can be a pain in the neck....and sometimes they just break.

REI's burn very similar. Since you have had experience with the NATO jobbies breaking on you, you know about the percussion-type of drawing strike to get them going. You don't have to do that with REI's at all. I think you will like them, a lot.

Oh yeah, I've had a love hate relationship with them for some time now :D

You make the second person today to tell me how good they work so now I'll will find out on the 21st...I couldn't resist and just now placed the order :)

Hmmm, maybe I should tell them that...or you could :D , lol in this economy I wouldn't mind a little extra money....but mainly I'm just so impressed with the product I had to share it.
 
Another vote for the REI Stormproof matches. All my kits have them along with a cube of Wetfire.
 
I would be interested in seeing a picture of the matchcap compared to the K&M match case.

If anyone who is buying one of the new matchcaps and already has a K&M would you take a picture and post it?

Cool, I just ordered some last night...but now I have to wait eight days to try them out. They were a lot cheaper than the NATO matches I bought last year too!
 
Got my REI storm proof matches in today...they came quicker than I expected.

They are a good bit longer than the NATO life boat matches and, as I was told by more than one person, they strike much easier than the NATO matches and burn better too. What is also really cool is that I was expecting just a pack of matches, but there were 2 packs of 25 matches, and two packs of spare red phos. strikers. Top notch service with a great product and a better price than I paid for the last two bottles of NATO matches I bought. So...while I have yet to use any starting a fire I have no doubt in their ability to do so and REI has earned another customer.

I guess it will vary depending on the size of the stem, but I was able to get 10 in the Matchcap with 9 down and 1 up.

And then I was able to get 9 in it with 8 down and 1 up with a whole one of the spare strikers that came with the matches. I think I can trim the striker down and get 10 back in it.
