To me, there is some possibility of fragility and failure with the threads but I don't see this as something I am going to use a lot. Just for emergencies, so you always have one on your keychain that is not exposed to the elements, etc.

To which you responded:

It isn't as fragile as you suggest.

Just how fragile did I suggest it was? You tell me, please. I think what I said was totally reasonable. I said, "To me, there is some POSSIBILITY of fragility and failure with the threads..." Now, "some possibility" seems to be taken as a slam, by you, because you obviously have some hyper-interest in this device as you even have it linked in your signature line.

You need to just take it easy man, if you're going to get offended by my comments, you're searching for offense where none is or was intended and if you are going to put some product out into the fray, it's going to be criticized, rightly or wrongly on merits real or perceived. That's just the way it is.

What is disturbing is I can give the device kudos and say one thing that is seen as somehow negative and this is a cause for mini-controversy.

Oh...that was just my long-winded way of stating that I'd rather just spend a few more hours at work to make the money to pay for something that is exactly what I have been looking for (and maybe even better with no tools required to change the ferro rod) than spend a few hours making something that wasn't :)

That's more than fair.

I definitely like that I can carry this one in my pocket or against my body around my neck without it looking like the one I posted above looked before I cleaned it up.

I imagine there have been quite a few made over the years.

I can tell you that long-term storage of a ferrocerium rod that has moisture on it that you cannot even see...can lead to total disintegration.

I like this little Nano Striker thing-a-ma-bob because you can have an unobtrusive ferro rod that is protected and it is right on your keychain. That was the only real selling point of the Aurora, in my opinion.

I think we need a head to head, winner take all, battle royale between this one and the current champ, the K&M matchcase.

I would actually like my K & M better if it had a screw-on cap. I have found a great work-around the cap popping off, which mine never did...the EXOTAC Matchsafe looks like a great piece of gear and would be made better by having that built-in redundancy of an excellent compass like the Suunto. I believe they are probably making the only mass produced, high quality button compass right now as the Bruntons seem to be tanking in the QC department.

Don, did you have your coffee, today? Where have I ever implied "a slam" in my response? Yes, I have a vested interest in the product, as I do sell them. However, there has been both positive and negative feedback to which I have openly welcomed and encouraged it.

It appears as you're the one who is "going off", here. Please feel free to PM me to continue any further dialogue, as I don't enjoy what I'm perceiving is going to become a public pissing match with you.

Chris,

Stop creating controversy where there is none. I made a statement, you made a statement, I commented on that. There is no match with me, urination or otherwise. I don't care really. You are obviously hypersensitive about this whole thing. There is no need to take it to PMs because I don't even have them.

There is also no reason for people to shy away from the product because of the threaded ferrocerium rod.

I'm not going off about anything, Chris. My coffee was fine, thank you. Did you take your medication this morning?
