expedition africa

gimp, I hope your dream will come true someday. As for me, I lived and worked in Sub-Saharan Africa for a number of years. It's not like what is protrayed in the movies and television shows.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I don't usually jump to the aid of a fair maiden in distress, but here are a bunch of quotes in chronological order that Kevin made about the show:

Well, I just finished filming for the History Channel this weekend. It will be for a new show that starts in June and I am the Survival Instructor interviewed for the promo for the series. I addressed many issues in the interview process which lasted hours and then the second day of filming involved me providing technical assistance for filming skills and creating shelter, fire, etc.

Overall, from what I saw, I can say the skills are on point and the show is taking a very good approach to practical (not Hollywood or hype) survival and emergency preparedness. The crew was awesome and the other guy brought in to discuss medical aspects was a true professional. Catered food was great and I would love to do it again. Maybe I will.

I'll keep you guys posted when the promo for the show airs but it will be real soon. Thanks for the support and hopefully you'll recognize some of my gear (actually a lot of it) and the way I build shelters, bushcraft and some of my one liners.

Well, I just heard from the production crew and it appears the segment I filmed for the History Channel will be On Demand starting tomorrow. It has already been shown at AMC Theaters during the movie trailers before the feature presentation. I'm supposed to have a copy of the DVD coming to me in the next couple of days. For now, go On Demand and check it out. There should be more extras too.

As for going to Africa and meeting the explorers, I didn't get to. I wish I could and would welcome the challenge and opportunity. Thanks for all the support guys. I appreciate your feedback and hope not to disappoint. Hope this show inspires others to get outside and learn more.

I never met any of the contestants. I simply provided survival information post production for the promotional short movies used On Demand and in AMC Theaters. Can't say I would tolerate the personality of Pasquale for too long.

To clarify, I did the promos for the show after all the actual expedition footage was filmed. I only wish I could have been on the trip to advise but unfortunately, I wasn't. The show is still entertaining to me and I'll continue to watch. Keep in mind, the show needs ratings and like a car accident, drama is hard to avoid slowing down for.

The first quote was from the original "Some Big News Part II" thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=635683. He clearly says that it is for the promo. If you skip through the post, you might be left with the impression that he had a bigger role, but he states twice that it is for the promo. This is what Kev clears up in a few posts.

Having worked for post-production facility in London in my past, I can say that I've worked on a few movies that didn't come up to scratch. I was proud of my work, but the movie as a whole was a POS (The World Is Not Enough, anyone??).

From these posts, the impression I get is that Kev was excited about the show because of the interaction he had with the production crew for the promos. They treated it seriously. I'm sure the promo crew were a completely different set of guys to the ones that actually produced/filmed/edited the series.

I watched it all. It left a lot to be desired. I just think the producers go for melodrama.
