Expensive knives that look significantly cheaper than their actual price?

I just showed my non-knife friend my new Sebenza 31 with a Damascus blade. He thought it costed $200CAD ($146USD) max, when it was actually $930CAD ($683USD) lol.

I get it though, at first, if you dont know what it is, it does look fairly plain looking.

Either way, I'm still in love with it.

This got me thinking though, what are some other knives that cost much more than they appear to be?

CRK look pretty utilitarian, especially the Plain Jane versions. I think you really have to handle one to appreciate what it is. I would say that i have 200 dollar ZTs that look way fancier and more expensive than my PJ Inkosi, but none of them are to the same level of fit.

Most midtech knives look fairly utilitarian. Strider, Hinderer, CRK PJ especially. However, my friend thought my Matt Bailey Model 2 Geek edition flipper was $1000.

The folks I work with know what type of knives I have. They don't guess at the price, they ask how much was it before they handle it. Some won't even pick one up once they know the price, some are curious and want to see what an expensive knife feels like.

Not an expensive knife per se (esp here), but I was helping a friend tear down some boxes with my We 709. Guy kept making remarks about how plastic-y it looked and the "little click" it made when opening. The friend was using a rainbow colored, assisted M-tech. I can understand how he'd think my knife was the cheaper of the two since he's not deep into knife steels and companies. It was entertaining to watch the knife get dull after cutting 2 boxes though.

Rockstead wins I think. This is $1600:

Looks like $75 on the internet, maybe a couple hundred in person due to the insane polish job, but certainly nowhere near $1600.

Damn hahaha even as a knife person myself, if there wasn't a logo yea I'd guess it'd be max $70-80, great find

Most of the blinged out titanium flippers with absurdly ground blades that look like cleavers or chisels you see on instagram command prices or secondary market values that are way beyond their appearances. And of course, all the accessories or whatnot like machined chunks of aluminum or micarta into knuckle dusters that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, and pocket clips with a shield or skull soldered on, or lanyard beads.

Dont underestimate that MTech; that steel was hand forged folded thousands of times and left out in the sunlight for a thousand years to achieve the rainbow effect. It is a knife only wielded by a true blade master; its quick dulling blade is not a flaw, but a sort of "gatekeeper" if you will; as to repel all but true blade masters to pick it up, for only they can handle sharpening it 10 times a day.

There are some serious, high-dollar flippers by custom makers that are all blinged out, which not knowing any better I think are modeled after the gas station "bucket o' knives". Lot's of fancy grinds, bright colors, and such. Could be a toy. Could be a top dollar custom.

LOL
It remember me the time, two years ago, I was carrying my large Inkosi KA CF and a friend brought a no-name knife with weird shapes and holes and a high end surgical steel.
Lot of our friends has been very impressed by the no- and knife and just “meeh” About the classic look of the Inkosi.
I haven’t said anything as my friend was very proud of the success of his knife. :)
the funniest part of the story is that this friend is now I the hype of ZTs, CRK and other high-mid end knives ;)

cery nice hobby we have

I handed my wife a cheap lightening OTF and then a Microtech Ultratech and asked her which one cost $300.
She picked the MT.
As far as non-knife friends, they don't have a clue so I don't bother discussing prices.
Only one work acquaintance asked advice on buying a high quality knife , I showed him my Umnumzaan and he bought a Sebenza.
