Expensive knives?!?!?

So I'm listening to the radio the other day, and they start talking about how Nicolas Cage had been near financial ruin based on silly purchases he had made, but had gotten out of the $$$ hole. But that he apparently wanted to be broke again, and what an ass he was because he had recently purchased a custom knife while in Alaska, "with, get this... MAMMOTH IVORY on the freak'n handle!!!! Really?!?!?! Are you serious?!?! Come on Cage you freak'n moron!!!"

I instantly was put on edge by these sheeple dj's that I normally find pretty entertaining.... lambasting Cage for buying a custom knife. Out of curiosity, I googled it.

Sure enough, the d'bag team at TMZ that make their living by following around celebrities telling us everything that isn't anybody's business... brings you the story. :barf:

The moral of the story? Nicolas Cage really is a knife guy! ;) :D

Edited to say that of course I see the irony in my post calling TMZ d'bags, but sharing a link to their "story"..... but I knew this was a group that could appreciate my frustration and anger while hearing such crap over the radio!!! ;) :)

He's also a carnivorous meat eater! (Had to get out Webster's on that one). Take that Politically Correct!

BTW did they have a pic of the steak knife? I didn't see a pic anywhere.

TMZ - Total Moron Zone? It's ridiculous, the kind of crap they put out as entertainment news is neither entertaining nor news in any meaningful way! But I'm sure they make a pretty good living shoveling shit to the sheeple. WHATEVER!

TMZ is owned by Time Warner. In other words, Time Warner has a subsidiary that makes a ton of money collecting sleazy stories on their own employees.

In any event, Nicholas Cage still owes the IRS ~ $14 Million in back taxes, which is why he's pounding out really awful movies like The Sorcerer's Apprentice and G-Force (where he plays a hammster ). So the IRS probably isn't going to be happy when they hear that he bought a Don Dezarn custom :)

Not too dumb to buy a bunch of nice knives and hide them away before the IRS comes to take all your chit.TMZ are morons and worse.

Ok but my question to you Nick, is what radio were you listening to? Who's worse, TMZ, or the guys that just eat and regurgitate TMZ's bullshit? Hmmm? ;)

I must live in a cave . AND I LIKE IT HERE . Who the f**** is TMZ ? Well I guess I have an idea even not knowing . I could really go on , on this , the decline of society and such . The stupidity being taught to our children and on and on , but , never mind . And of course Linsy loo and the justice system .

Nic, if you have worked through your last dry spell and now have money, I have several nice knives for sale, one features those rare and beautiful mastodon ivory handle scales.

Fred

If buying a custom knife will 'make him broke again' he has much larger problems!

At least a custom knife was mentioned in the mass liberal media. :D

I feel vaguely ashamed and slightly dirty, just for reading a ShopTalk thread about "celebrities" and the brainless, vapid media that covers their every move. We have work to do, yes? C'mon guys, this nonsense is W&C material, at best, and would be ridiculed for the utter crap it is, even there.

Well, a bunch of you totally missed my point.

I don't give a crap about TMZ or gossip either. I was venting that folks on a radio show I listen to fairly regularly took 15 seconds of their bs time in between songs to make fun of someone, in this case a celebrity, for buying a custom knife with a mammoth ivory handle.

That's mainstream attitude. And I think it sucks that a huge majority of the country would have the same reaction as the dj's did.

If you somehow mistook this thread as something to do with me being a fanboy of Cage, a proponent of TMZ, or anything other then the first couple sentences of this post then you didn't get what I was saying.

Guess I didn't have a group that could appreciate it. :foot:

Oh, and for what it's worth, I meant to post it in the "around the grinder section"

That kind of crap makes me sad and angry at the same time. Sad that so many people haven't been exposed to enough art and creativity and just plain quality in their lives to understand what custom knives are all about, and angry because these same people seem to feel the need to bash those that are cultured enough appreciate nice things.

The comments on the article are even worse.

And Nick, we all know you love TMZ and can't wait to hear what Britney is up to each day :D I know it's hard for a big manly dude like yourself to admit it, but we're all friends here and there's no need to hide your true self.

I think we were all just poking a little fun at you Nick, we know you're a big boy and can take it, and for my part, I was making fun of the DJ's primarily. :P

As to what you were trying to point out, yes, it's tragic that people are so narrow minded, but on the other hand, how much do we all sit around thinking or chatting that other people are doing stupid "this or that"? Next time any of us find ourselves pissed off that someone (individual, politico, activist, reverend, whatever), is doing something that someone else on the radio or TV tells us about, we should think about Nick Cage, and wonder if we really know enough about the situation to pass judgement. That's my lesson at-least, but I'm actively trying to stop the cycle of assuming I know anything about anyone and what they do.

I read somewhere that Brad Pitt picked up a custom knife while on a shoot, and I thought that was cool. I took the Nick Cage comment in the same vein.

Got a buddy does alot of the horse work in the movies. Matt Damon gave him a custom knife (cable damascus) as a thank-you for helping him on a flick. He wants me sharpen it for him as he hasn't been able to get an edge on it yet. We havn't got hooked up together yet so I havn't seen it yet nor do I know who made it. Point is that it is cool that hosehold names like this are interested in custom knives and that can only be good for all. I also agree with Nick's original post. My reaction upon reading it was also irritation at the dj's poking fun. My take was that last I checked this was still America and if Mr Cage or any Mr Smith even for that matter would like to buy a $2000 knife and had the $2000...cool. No body's business but his own and certainly not cause for derision. Vent on Mr Wheeler and with cause.

I think you're missing the point. I think it's great that Brad Pitt, or Matt Damon, ... buys custom knives. But it doesn't make the news, because they don't owe $14 million in back taxes.

The only reason the Nick Cage story went viral is because he's about to share a jail cell with Wesley Snipes for tax evasion, so it's bizarre that he's buying *any* expensive item, whether that's a car, or a custom knife, or a dinosaur skull, or a rare martian meteorite (he's bought all of those)....
