^^^That is the first definition if you Google "Choil definition". Others include, but are not limited to:

So as you can see, even your precious dictionaries disagree on the definition of the term. Hope this helps.

It is in other dictionaries as well, silly, but the one I quoted is from the Oxford English Dictionary and is in agreement with use of the term by actual knife-makers, e.g. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/717242-The-Choil-Ricasso-thing
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1090349-Knife-Anatomy
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/538182-Knife-Terminology/page2
http://books.google.com/books?id=XG...AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=definition of choil&f=false

And none of those alternates disagree with the definition I presented, whereas the use of the term to describe the ricasso (as achieved by spyderco fans) disagrees with ALL of them :)

...he is technically right but hes just being a snob for trying to correct everyone..

"Knife-enthusiast". But thank you for the support. It is, afterall, not my word, not my definition. And the notion of semantic change requires that a MAJORITY of people use the term in a specific way, but so far only a very small minority of people still living even use the term and and even SMALLER minority think it describes any groove or notch anywhere on a knife. *shrug* Then again, in the age of the internet, any word can mean anything to anyone at any given moment, not sure why we even have dictionaries...
