Experience with CPM-M4 or S90V Mules?

Just wondering if anyone out there has experience with both Mules, M4 and S90V? Any huge difference in edge holding? I read a couple of posts mentioning possible edge chipping with S90V - for general EDC use, is that really an issue?

Anyone use their M4 Mule for food prep? If so, does it take a nice patina?

Thanks!

Yes, I have experience with both. The S90V holds up to my use better than the M4, but my use is not typical (my edges get exposed to a lot of hard and/or abrasive materials). I have experienced no unexpected chipping with either. I kind of expect chips when I hit concrete, ceramic or steel, and both have obliged. For what other people call normal use, I doubt it would ever be an issue.

I haven't tried building a patina on M4, but I can tell you it rusts readily if not kept dry. Spots of surface rust formed in minutes on mine when I got the sheath wet.

been using my M4 in kitchen for some time now, w/out issues regarding rust spots or nasty patina; on the other hand I usually wipe it dry as soon as I'm done with food preparation

the S90V does hold its edge longer but M4 takes a finer edge, probably due to finer carbides in the steel matrix

I am thinking of using a M4 Mule as a day hiker. If I were to use the M4 to make a lunch while out hiking a trail (apples, cheese, meat, etc.) would that be a bad idea? If I wiped it down while out on the trail, and washed it when I got back home (soap and water, then a light coat of veggie oil), should I expect anything? Patina, corrosion, etc.? Thanks!

Patina is not a bad thing, it protects the steel.
