I recently sent my ZT 200 back to KAI since it basically had no detent, and wouldn't come close to fully opening when depressing the flipper tab. I filled out the warranty service form from their website, and sent it in, about a week and a half later here my knife comes back, in a WAY oversized box, big enough to hold three dozen knives and my original form was in the box still, stamped with a received on date (5/27/14) stamped on it. But they had not touched the knife! Pissed off to put it mildly. I wanted to ask those that have experience, would you recommend a call to KAI before I send it back again--I feel they should eat the shipping this time at any rate.

Just looking for previous experiences/advice

Yep. That's worth a phone call. Obviously something went wrong. But I'd recommend you give KAI the benefit of the doubt. Explain what happened CALMLY and ask them to send you a shipping label. If they're the company I think they are, they'll do exactly that.

I've had nothing but good service from KAI's warranty team, they sent me replacement backspacers (more than I needed) when my 0562 arrived with a large (strictly cosmetic) dent in one. I've never sent anything in to them, but I would definitely make a phone call. Their service is widely considered to be excellent and they are normally very accommodating.

It could have just gotten screwed up in shipping. My guess is that it never actually got to the repair department. If it had, it would have been fixed.

Stuff happens.

That sounds good folks, calling them was my intent. I received the knife on Friday while I was at BladeShow, and when I called today, they weren't working on the weekend. So a call Monday it will be.

I agree. I have had one problem and they were great. I would call and talk with someone.

For what it's worth, all 0200s I have flipped have had VERY light detents. I found if I built up pressure forward and down, and then moved my finger back, it flipped very smoothly every time. I hope you get it worked out though.

Zt does not adjust detents to customers specs. The only time they would do something is if it was out of their spec.

The zt0200 does not have the strongest detent out there. Its also not on bearings. My zt0200 would flip completely out but only if I used a really really strong push button technique.

It will also get smoother with wear and easier to flip. Just practice your push button technique.:
