Experiences with Gransfors Bruk Outdoor Axe

Quick question for you- do you use other axes?
I have had lots of different axes and carvers.
GB have me by the short and curlys because once I get used to somthing I dont like change haha.

Have never had a problem with any of them, they come shaving sharp from the box, the wood is always good and very little work required on keeping them good.

I have chipped edge a few times as the carbon is quite soft, but again very easy to get the lumps out.

I like mine enough. I have a romantic opinion of tomahawks in the woods and the outdoor axe is a good real-world alternative, because I'm not out whittling trap triggers or fighting off bears. I abuse it some, anything vaguely hammer-like tends to serve as a hammer if and when i need it.
It's light and shaped well enough to use like an ulu, or to make feathersticks.

It's easy to mis-swing; good safety and swinging off-body is important if you're not used to something that short. I've cut through pretty significant logs (+/- 16") with it, mainly just to prove it could do it. I'm hunting for pictures, but it's been a while. For a messing-around tool, it's a good one.

Haven't ever handled the Outdoor Axe, but I have a Small Forest Axe that I bought about 15 years ago that I couldn't be happier with. Hard blade, correct edge geometry (for chopping, not splitting). It's a great small axe all around IMO.
