Sometimes it's fun just to let your imagination run wild.

Must . . . sell . . . kidney . . . must . . . sell. . . house . . . must . . . sell . . . children to white slave market. . . must own Hossom blade . . .

The voices in my head are telling me I need one of these.

Absolutely wonderful Jerry. I'm gonna hate to have to steal it from whoever purchases it from you.

Congratulations on creating a whole new hybrid genre. I always knew I needed a sword, just couldn't justify it--but everyone south of San Antonio carries a machete. What a concept! The perfect thing for hacking through mesquite brush and defending against drug-running aliens down here on the Rio Grande.
Now about a price on one in CPM 3V...?

Will, you have mail.

I will be prototyping a CPM-3V sword in my next batch. I want to see how a very long blade in 3V works out. There will be a review of one of my A2 swords in the Filipino Combat Arts Forum soon. It too is a great sword steel, especially if heat treated to maximize the sword's durability.

Jerry, Will aced me on that one, assuming you think it can handle hardwood chopping I would be very interested in knowing what your price would be on a CPM-3V version as well.

Cliff, The machete's blade is hollow ground and just not well suited to wood. In a review of one of my swords that will appear in another area of these forums, Gaucho found that when cutting plywood the sword penetrated 2" then stopped. The top of the grind is like a big wall for hard materials. Interestingly, that same blade cut through 3" bamboo without any trouble. Likely there is enough flex in the bamboo to allow the spine of the blade to penetrate it.

The machete was really designed for cutting soft materials and thinner targets. I am planning another long blade in CPM soon, but that too will be hollow ground.

Thanks for the consideration though.

Jerry--
I respect your reasoning with regard to the hollow grind. That stated, have you considered the possibility of trying a flat grind to give the MMM, or a like instrument of destruction, some chopping performance? Might enhance its qualification to be included in the "machete" class?
--Will

Will, a flat grind would result in either a heavier blade or one with a thinner spine, both of which I avoid when I can. This blade is ground from 3/16" steel and the spine is full thickness to within 3-4" of the point, then it is at least 1/8" immediately behind the point. Even so, Paul Bos heat treated this to Rc57-58, rather than the normal Rc60-61, to provide additional flexibility and impact resistance. The blade is easily bent by hand 4+" without stessing either it or me.

Having used a machete for a bunch of months with Uncle Sam, I think I can safely say this will cut anything the average machete will and a few things it won't.

Then again, I really didn't anticipate this being used for bushwhacking, but I guess it could. I designed this primarily for FMA fighting. That is why it has a lot more point than you would normally find on a machete. It is generally capable of skewering most anything it wants.

Sweet looking piece Jerry! You're making it harder and harder for me not to own one of your knives every time you do this. (Counting pennies as I type...1,2,3..)

Take care,
Tom

Understood. After all, it is first and foremost a fighting tool, and balance can't be sacrificed.
One beautiful vision of danger executed in steel. Again, congratulations.

Let me tell you guys that if the Millennium Machete moves and cuts anything like the Millennium Espada that I've been testing, its gotta be serious sword.

If all is good with the world, I will post my review of the Espada in the Filipino Combat Arts Forum tomorrow.
