These blocks were an experiment that I think turned out pretty good.
I had cut up some really nice curly maple that was sort of a blonde color. The figure was really nice but the coloring was not very dramatic. I decided to try some different colors and have them dyed and stabilized by K&G. Everything else they have done for me has turned out really good so I figured I was pretty safe with these.

The photo shows a blonde color block in the center. That is how this wood looked before being dyed.

What do you think?
Do they look OK?

I also had some sycamore dyed.
I am cutting scales and getting them sanded now.

When I told my boss I was going to have maple burl dyed blue he thought I was crazy.
What do you think?....................too much blue?

looks good Mark....

I wonder how long they have to set to allow the dye to penetrate the entire piece??

your cut scales there look pretty even all the way through...

I like them..

K&G doesn't like to share their trade secrets but Brad at K&G did say these were in the dye tank for about 2 or 3 weeks before they came out to be stabilized.
Every type of wood responds to the dyes differently. What I do when I get a batch back is cut some into scales so I can see how the penetration of the dye was for that type of wood.

I like blue, blue is a good taste in their own way. I can't imagine how about it with more dark blue.

I just finished adding 24 sets of dyed and stabilized sycamore scales in the webstore.
Just click on the photo to go there.
