White IHO, it allows the blade finish to really pop out, and is better for attracting the eye to the details. With the white, can really see the grain and satin finish of the blade.
I agree with the detail being best with white. But which is the most accurate as to the color of the slabs? It is always very disappointing to get a knife based on a photo that is inaccurate and then have the slabs look flat and dull when you pull it from the box.
There is no point to compare black background with poor light setup with white background with correct lighting. It is not about background color or darkness, but about good or bad light.
