Explain to a newbie

Hi,can someone tell me the difference between these two terms,and in short how they are accomplished...
I use these terms,because this is what I have read being used.
So I may be stating in error...

What is the difference between Pick Bone and Jigged.... ??

I know it refers to the treatment done to the knife scales (handles).
Carving them if you will.
I want to know the difference,and if either are done by hand...
By hand I mean custom carved work..

Or is this all machined work,following a pattern ??

The term jig,I only know as a setup,that allows repeated work to be implemented,to produce a state of exactness.
