Explain why you carry the way you do

For work I keep 2 Moras and a Marttiini, all fixed blades in my truck. They are cheap and sometimes I have to loan them when I have some help at work. Also keep a barlow in my pocket. My hubby also works outdoors and he carries a lockback. If we are camping, hunting, or on a hike we will carry a fixed blade along with our pocket knives. And a fillet knife for fishing.

I carry completely concealed. I carry two Fixed blades (Benchmade

Instigator and Kabar TDI) one on each hip Inside the Waistband, a folder

(Spyderco Tenacious) inside the right pocket clipped to a plastic hat visor I

cut out of an old hat so that the clip does not show. These are support Items

to my CCW handgun they are in case I can't access my handgun or the other

hand is injured and can't be used or is pre-occupied and the folder is a last

ditch/utility knife. I have a small fixed blade around my neck usually.(A

Kabar TDI LDK) I carry the way I do because we all live in a neutered

society where the majority go into a mass panic at the site of a weapon, or

just don't think you should have it because they have nothing better to do

with their life and call the police.

I typically carry two knives. The primary knife is what I grab first for any task. They include Spyderco Military, Large Sebenza Classic, BM710. I prefer a blade close to 4" since it works well for food prep when needed. The other is a small blade that slips into the bottom of my right pocket and these days has been a Spyderco Jester. At work, for example, if I need to cut something I'll reach for the smaller knife in order not to scare the general work population.

I don't really carry any knife for self protection since the laws get very fuzzy here in California. Only under life or death situation would I use a knife and I'm not really in an area where those come up.

Sebenza:

Thin hollow ground blade
Very corrosion resistant
pins and screws to assemble (no screws into the handles....)
Spacers to provide perfect assembly and function
perfect lockup - no blade play - every time!
Simple NO BS design
Easy as crud to sharpen
I can pull it out without everyone thinking I am going to murder them...
Easy to maintain

Thats all I can think of now....

My dad gave me this knife about 50 years ago.

It was carried in my right front pocket. Sharpened a lot of pencils with it in grammar school played mumbly peg with it and did the things that kids do with knives.

Fifty years later, there is still a slipjoint in my right front pocket and sometimes it ends up being the knife pictured above. :D.

I carry that way, because it works for me.

Puukkoman I would really rather not, because I don't want to give the impression that I am bashing a good maker on the forum. Sometimes a commercial knife is a little softer than I would like and it shouldn't reflect badly on them as it might be meeting the specs they set for whatever reason. If you really want to know send me an e-mail and I'll tell you off the forum.

My most carried knife is a Victorinox Signature. Mainly because it fits on my keychain and therefore is always with me as long as I have my keychain.

i got a swisscard in wallet; though sometimes it's a tool logic card. very handy little toolkits.

IF i'm carrying a blade, it will either be a chive or baby boa; i got no need to carry anything bigger than that. if i do it's because i need it for a specific work situation.

i don't use pocket clips. primarily because i don't like anyone knowing i'm carrying a blade, period. i don't showoff what i'm carrying, ever.

now if i'm carrying a briefcase or working backpack, i will probably have a multitool, bigger blade (probably rescue blur) or both in there.

...put me in the rare category who think of knives as tools first.

This will be my EDC loadout in the very near future (as in some of it is in the mail...)

Standard (typical day, go to the office, eat, home, sleep):
Small Sebenza Classic
SAK Farmer

Utility Multitool:
Victorinox Spirit Swisstool (considering getting LM Wave) - If I expect any heavy duty work that the Farmer can't handle.

Tanky Knife:
Manix 2 w/ Combo Edge - If I ever need to dig a ditch.

Crime Fighting Loadout:
Batarangs - You can never have enough.

I've tried a lot of different methods over the past twenty or more years and at this time I have come up with what works for me. What works for me is to carry two knives. My right front pocket is empty except for whichever knife I am carrying there. It is always a large (3.5" to 4.25"), single bladed, locking, pocket clipped folder. For the past few months it has rotated between a Kershaw G-10 Tyrade and a ZT0200. I'll admit that this knife does not see much, if any, action during the course of the day, but I enjoy carrying a nicely crafted piece of cutlery that I feel would not let me down if I did have to use it. My second knife, my left front pocket knife, and the one that gets the bulk of the daily work I need a knife for is a smaller knife, usually a slipjoint of some type. For the past couple of weeks I have been carrying a Spyderco Persistence in my left front and though it is a little larger than I am accustomed to, I am coming to like it very much.

This has taken me a while to get too, but I have been carrying like this for the past 7 or 8 years and it has worked out well for me.:D:thumbup:

My EDC depends what I'm doing that day and wearing. Mostly during the week, I carry traditional slip joint, today it is a GEC Northfield Wharncliff Barlow. I like the looks of traditionals; sort of like using a nice pen or wearing a nice watch. I also like them because the men in my life that I respect always had them - nostalgia. Wearing jeans I'll opt for my SOG Twitch or AG Russell Featherlite.

On the weekends it is bigger slippies, or SAKs. I love SAKs - form and function.

If in the outdoors it is typically one of my EDC along with a Buck 110 or a small fixed blade - often a Mora - and a Leatherman Wave.

Fair enough.
I'll just put it out of my mind.
Some enticing questions have unwanted answers. :o

I think most of us on this board think of knives as tools first.

...not according to the original poster...

and i tend to forget i do carry a SAK often; the version that has a cigar cutter...cutting is preferable to biting the cap off...

and when in camping/way outdoors situations, all bets are off; i love carrying a fixed on the belt...

I carry a Kershaw assisted opener (the little skinny one with two kinds of steel in the blade) for slicing fruit at the DFAC and opening junk food packages that show up in the mail.

There's a crapload of LN's on the camp these days though, so I also carry a CRKT Hissatsu IWB strong side under my shirt as a nasty surprise for any hadji that decides to cash in on the "kidnap an American" lottery with me as his ticket. Being prohibited from carrying my sidearm in a war zone kind of sucks. Anyway, I pulled it out at HQ the other day when asked if I had a can opener. The officer that asked about shat himself when the thing appeared. :-) Yep. Oughta get me just enough of a WTFO reaction to run like a little girl if anybody tries to kidnap me.

Usually some midsized folder (Spyderco: Delicas, Manix II, Para, Tenacious, occasionally I'll carry a RAT Izula instead) in right pocket, clipped at work, deep pocket when on the street. In my backpack (at work) I have a vic classic, and a Spyderco Bug on my keychain.

The larger folder comes out for cutting fruit/food for lunch, opening boxes, etc., on the SAK I use the scissors to trim nails and the bug for small things like hanging treads or a bit of lose skin, etc.

The Bug is also my go-to for doing knife related tasks around people who have not seen me use a knife before (like opening a box,) if it is too small, I will take the task with me or wait.

I have carried a knife for 35 years. I do what I do, because that is what works for ME. I also buy what works for ME.

That sums it up well.

I carry a knife because it's a useful tool. Probably even more important is that after more than 40 years of carrying a knife daily, it's a deeply ingrained personal habit. I feel nekkid without a knife.

What I carry changes and evolves. I like trying new knives, but I have several favorites that I always come back to.

I was taught growing up that a man should always carry a knife. I feel that a knife is mankinds most essential tool. I have been carrying a vic one-hand trekker and a case swayback gent for a few weeks it seems to work for me. Buy the way I also carry a S&W 442 in 38spl for protection( ccw holder for 2 years, gotta love livin in usa.)
