Explanation of Amendment 1447

It will have NO effect on the NY law. It does help anywhere that uses the federal statue as a guidline since they do not have certain terms defined in their state or local laws. NY has well defined terms that the courts have allowed to be enforced in a widely inclusive way. There are many state and local laws that are worded worst then NY's as they state inertia opening and don't require the blade to lock open.
 
Are you all sure? Because if the federal law says X, Y, and Z are not switchblades or gravity knives, then states cannot overrule it. Federal law should overrule local laws, no?

No. States can restrict more, but not less then, Federal law.
 
Yes I am very sure.....I am a former NYC LEO and the NY law is what it is. The courts have allowed it be interperted in an unfavorable way, but the federal law has no bearing on NY unless the NY law was declared unconstitutional, which has not happened.
