As I venture further into knifemaking, I have to be proficient in sharpening.

The 3 knifemakers shops I've visited all sharpened free hand on 2x72 belts with great skill. they preferred putting on a working edge.
I'm thinking about learning whetstone sharpening by hand.

I'm ready to start learning and practicing. I found this older thread -
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...u-knifemakers-use-to-sharpen-your-made-knives

so before I go off, I'd like to see what today's consensus is - so what do you knifemakers use to sharpen your handmade knives?

thanks

I use diafilds from DMT, then strop.
I prefer to fix the knife and move the sharpeners. (the other way around will work just as well)

This will come in handy for you.
I made two small blocks in these angles.
I place one on the flat ricasso, allign the sharpener, do a few moves and reallign
