Exploring With The Little One & Playing With Tinder

I miss teaching to kids. I did a lot of that stuff with my sons but they are all grown now. Have to wait for my grandson to get a little older. :) Good stuff man!

Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed the post. My oldest is grown and off on her own now, so I am getting in as much time with the youngest as I can :)

nice pics, brian! i like orange as well so two-thumbs up on that knife :)

i notice a ribbing effect on your daughter's firesteel. it happens to my firesteels once in awhile too and prevents a smooth striking action and sometimes hinders getting good sparks...i found that a few seconds with a belt sander or a file will flatten the ribs out fast and produce lots of spark from that area again. before filing it flat, i tried just repeatedly striking that area in hopes of flattening it out but it seems like it makes the ribbing more pronounced.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I absolutely love your threads and pics. Glad to see your daughter's hand healed up well and that is a very nice knife. Thanks for sharing.

I'm in that boat now. I find it fun to learn together and for the younger people to see how you look stuff up whether it be a plant, tree, rock, snake and so forth. I have forgot most of what I have learned about plants. You have to keep getting out and doing it to keep fresh.

Me too, I love walking by my daughter's room to have her ask questions and walk in and see her researching things rather than watching some cartoon or playing video games.

Nice knife. Cute kid. Very interesting wedding ring. :)

Thanks man. The knife was well work the wait, the kid keeps me grounded. My wife gave me that for Valentines Day to replace the original that had gotten too tight over the years. I really dig it.

Awesome post, and photos, as always. Keep em coming brudda.

You're a lucky dad and she's a lucky daughter! Thanks for this story and great pics.

Thanks Jay! You posted after I replied last time and I missed your post, sorry man. Yeah, I think that happens to a lot of people when they are still learning about ferro rods. Her hand still being a little sore when she started using this particular one didn't help I fear. I can fix it, or if worse comes to worse, it's an Exotac fire rod and I can just replace the rod.

I am indeed very blessed and fortunate! Thank you I am glad you enjoyed the post.

Beautiful photography and excellent knife. The Yuma is my favorite fixed blade.

Thank you Marty, I'm glad you enjoyed the post. I'n rather eclectic in my moods, and in the subjects I teach and cover in my writing, so I don't seem to be able to manage settling on one favorite for all. However the Yuma is definitely one of the most well thought out and executed designs I have ever used and one of my favorite knives to be sure.
