Ok, I heard this announced by someone in some forum that went to the recent Blade expo. Revoluntionary material? If you could combine the best attributes of both materials, it'll be to cool for words. But I've always been a skeptic to something that's sounds too good to be true.

I did a bit of digging and found out that it was this company that launched an interestingly-designed, well-made but friggin expensive folder a couple of years back that also won an award at Blade.

BTW, here's the designer, a hard-core security type. Is it just me or does he look alot like the character "Handlebar" in the "Bravestarr" cartoons from the late 80's? :D

Anybody already used/handled/fondled the thing?

If you make it, some duffas will buy it. The more ridiculous the better. ;)

Everything on that site is pretty stupid looking to me. Looks nothing more than a ploy to make money.

I don't know what you guys are complaining about. They look like practical designs to me. Now we just need to convince Mitner to send Cliff Stamp a test blade...

He looks just right for a TV character !! Explosive bonding has been around for about 40 years. It will join two materials that can't be joined by other means such as steel and titanium.

Take off the paracord and its looks like it might make a good pie knife, lol.
The one spyderco-ish folder looks ok but other than than theres nothing there that turns my crank. But hey "to each his own".
:)
Does anybody here actually own one of these, or know someone who owns one of these?

I liked the self-sharpening folder myself. Maybe I didn't dig far enough, but I couldn't ever find out what the heck a 'hollowflat' blade was. I guess I shouldn't complain, it does have PM Elmax Utraclean Stainless steel for the blade. I think I'll sell my DarkOps collection and start in on Miltner Adams.

I really don't see why you guys are already ragging on this website so much, sure the guy looks like he'd be better off in a GI Joe movie than real life. But so what? I'll bet there are quite a few people on this forum that are pretty weird looking. As far as the knife designs go, the M-4 or w/e may not be my preferred knife but each to his own. I don't see any mention of "covert deanimation" and whatnot. Threads like these suprise me simply because I'm not used to identifying the kind of people that visit these threads with the intolerant sheeple out in the world. These threads show that we are simply intolerant in other ways. For those of you who may be getting old and have failing eyesight, the part about the hollowflat blade is right next to the logo at the top of the page http://miltner-adams.com/ma_hfb.html. As far as the steel type goes, he even provides the composition of it, who cares what the company calls it?????

Probably because the guy is standing out in the desert with no weapon, wearing a tank top, and has a couple knives and what look to be tan leather gloves.

It's just funny because nobody does that. If you're gonna be in the desert you need something on your arms, shoulders, head, etc.

It's obvious that he's just trying to "look cool".

Yep, I've read a bit about Elmax Super Clean somewhere. Seems to be prime European stainless.

As for the folder itself, when I saw it a couple of years back, from a purely design perspective, it looked well-thought out. But as with most things in life, it's in the execution of the construction and the performance of the tool is where is at. Several intriguing innovations - Blade grind ("Hollow Flat") with a self-sharpener, a high-end stainless (I maybe wrong but Elmax could be the equivalent of BG-42? I'll let the steel gurus tackle this). Again, the sore point is the price.

I believe the self-sharpening system even pre-dated a well-known brand's own design that was recently launched.

Hollowflat explained here : http://miltner-adams.com/ma_hfb.html
I'm having trouble guessing what the advantage is of hollow-flat.

Controls blood spray patterns to facilitate covert deanimation operations.

Makes sharpening easy. That's what they say.

I don't see any Dark Ops style marketing anywhere. Only thing I see is a guy who's been to the gym and has a military background. Despite what he's wearing in a photoshoot I think that the Dark Ops reference is uncalled for.

I would be very surprised if they actually received a patent on that "HollowFlat" grind.

Just happens to be the same kind of grind that Japanese sashimi knives have been using, for, oh, at least 50 years, if not longer.

The advantage is a chisel-ground blade that's easier to sharpen, and fish doesn't stick as easily to the flat side.

Of course, this is a moot point unless you're a lefty using this knife, as the flat grind is on the wrong side for a righty.
