This is an Explosion pattern damascus integral in a takedown design. The handle has a 416 spacer and buttcap on both ends of a stag taper. The finial is also 416 with with some six sided machining. The blade is 5 7/8" and OAL is 11".

The construction of this knife, tiling on a bolster, was one of those experiments gone right.:) I've had way to many go wrong.

I've talked with a couple knife makers who I really respect and asked their opinion, but I figured I'd ask here as well. This being my first stag tapered handle I was torn on the different methods of transitioning the stag into the buttcap. I've seen where guys will file the stag grooves in or grind the stag so the buttcap is symetrical. I chose to follow the outline of the stag trying to preserve the great piece I had to work with, thanks to Chuck Bybee. What are your preferred methods you like to see in finishing this area of the knife. Thanks for your input.

I'll be taking this one with me to the Rocky Mountain knife show in Boise.

Hope you like it.

Oh man that is soooooo sweet. You really nailed that damascus pattern.

Awesome Mike, I gotta have one of those integrals of you when you've done the other two I got ordered. I see what you mean about the finial, when we spoke earlier today just finishes it off real nice!! The stag transition looks great too.

Awesome!!!:eek::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
That is a very cool knife and lots of great interesting little things going on too.
Great work, Mike!

That's some outstanding steel with an overall knife to match. Hope you do well at the show (I'm sure this one won't last long.)

Mike,

I don't know how you managed that explosion pattern, but you nailed it dead center.

That one rocks my boat...... Thanks for letting us have a look.

Hi Mike, That is awesome, great execution. I personaly like the butt caps simetrical but thats the beauty of this whole thing, there are people that like what I don't favor. We all get to make what we want and there's going to be someone who likes what we did.

Nice one Mike. Looks like it all came together very nice. I like the way you treated the buttcap. I have had one in the works for some time that I filed the grooves to match and it has been a bunch of work but the look is very cool. Anyhow nice work. -Burton

Hi Mike, I really like this one. Great job on the damascus! I hesitated at first with the SS fittings but I think they work well. I like the way the butt cap is shaped with the stag handle.

Would damascus be an option for the spacer and butt cap?

Mike, you nailed that one buddy.
To answer your query, I've often let the taper tell me what to do.
I don't know if there's anyway of doing it that looks bad.
Some tapers have more figure, and most have varying profiles.
That's a hard one that you just sort of need to evaluate as one piece of an overall puzzle.
It's just a choice of deciding what suits the other aspects of the knife and your design.
Bit it'd be my guess that if it says "Quesenberry" on it - it'll sell regardless.

Superb steel, and exceptional stag. The butt looks great, but so does the filed/scalloped look, especially when done in damascus or wrought iron. I think the clean look you have here works very well with the SS.

art knives usually are'nt my thing, but mr. quesenberry this is one beautiful knife. graceful as a swan yet sleek as a starship.it really is an amazing piece of art. thanks for showing.
