Explosion pattern integral w/stag

Hi Mike, I really like this one. Great job on the damascus! I hesitated at first with the SS fittings but I think they work well. I like the way the butt cap is shaped with the stag handle.

Would damascus be an option for the spacer and butt cap?

The next one I do will have a damascus buttcap and finial. This one, to be honest, was an experiment. I didn't know if I could make an integral out of explosion pattern. I love to experiment with new techniques:D.

Mike I really like your integral style in general but that damascus, as everyone has said, really is off the hook. Great stuff, keep experimenting!

Awesome damascus, and nice piece of stag Mike.

Technically, wouldn't that would be a "semi" integral, as I had thought an integral would include the pommel?

I ask more to satisfy my own quest for knowledge, than a criticism of your knife.

^^^ That's a distinction commonly drawn in the stock removal context - integral bolster = semi integral, integral bolster and butt = full integral.

I've never really bought into it. In the forged blade context, integral construction is integral construction. The knife in my avatar at present isn't "semi" anything. One piece of steel forms the blade, bolster and tang. It's an integral.

Thanks for answering that Roger. I agree 100%. The bolster area and tang are one solid forge welded piece.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Mike, your work is impressive.
Especially your execution of the explosion pattern here. It's reminds me of Tim Hancock's
explosion damascus and that's a good thing. And wow, your stag is always super premo.

I agree in that if it's "all one piece" it's an integral knife, however there's many out there who lean towards the "full integral" vs. "semi integral" definition. Here's an old thread with some good and interesting discussion on integral construction.
