My father was recently concerned that one of his favorite folding pocketknives would no longer lock into the open position. Quickly found the problem was pocket lint - the bane of standard lockbacks - and 'fixed' the knife with a simple cleaning, but Pop would no longer rely on the knife like he previously did (no more leaping from his ATV with that folder in his teeth).

Well it got me thinking as to what sort of folding pocketknife with a locking blade would be stronger than a lockback (even while twisting or torquing) and not be fouled and defeated by lint?

The Toggle Lock

Sadly, sales did not do justice to the Hawk family's Toggle Lock (nor their ZT MUDD knife - buy their knives, people!) and the 1900 ET has been taken off the market. Thankfully, I had a stash of three such bad boys and my Dad is proudly carrying the most badass looking of them clipped to his pocket and he's enjoying the gadgetry, the innovation, the bottle opener, and the high degree of lint resistance. Decided to warn him about the finger-nipping nature of the wondrous blade, too, so it should be all aces for him.

So Happy Thanksgiving, Kershaw/KAI, and thanks for making the production version of a knife my Dad greatly appreciates.

My dad has taken a real affection to some of my knives. he owns my old JYD II and my ZT 0200 now, and he just uses them to open mail. however, he gets the biggest smile on his face when he trys to figure out what knife to use...
