I found these blocks in a box I had stashed and forgotten about. These are all cut from redwood burls that were considerably harder than normal redwood. In addition to being harder the grain and figure become a lot more defined and crisper than you normally get with redwood. These are all extra nice pieces that should be saved for special projects. This is natural redwood, it has not been dyed or stabilized.

I am in the process or stocking up my webstore but I thought these pieces were extra nice so I am letting you guys have first choice. After a few days I will be closing this thread and moving any remaining blocks to my webstore.

US shipping is $2.50 per block or $10 for as many as will fit in a medium flat rate box. My address for paypal is itsaburl@hotmail.com

When you see blocks you want, just post “I’ll take #s….” and I will mark them sold for you.

Here are some extra photos of the blocks turned sideways. Some types of figure will show better from side to side instead of top to bottom. These are in order of smaller number at top, larger number at bottom.

I gotta run so not much time to study these maybe later tonight. Is this the stuff from the 40's?

No, the 40s stuff is long gone except for a few pieces I am keeping. I doubt I will see anymore like that. I wish I had saved more for myself.

This is old growth burl that we got from a guy who was a burl dealer until about 25 years ago. He was an old friend of my boss so I got to pick through his stash. After I cut it up, these are the ones that went into my stash. It's good hard redwood but not quite as dense as the 40s stuff.

Hi Phil, It's been a while. If something extra ends up in your package just apply it towards my rent for when my wife and I show up there. Thanks, Mark

Thanks Mark. I'll move out of the doghouse (from buying this stuff) and let you use it when you get here. Please bundle these with the walnut block I pledged in the other thread. All the best, Phil

Alright since no one took it away from me yet, I guess I'm destined to have it. 120 please.

Mark what's your thoughts on stabilizing this stuff? I know you said hte extra hard stuff from the 40's didn't need to be. But what about this batch?

Fletch Helical,
It is a personal judgement call with this stuff. I wouldn't stabilize it for my use. The piece you chose will come alive with a tru-oil or tung oil finish. If you decide to have it stabilized, I would recommend K&G. They seem to be one of the best with redwood. The 40s redwood would have been like stabilizing ironwood.

Mark, since you can see it and I can't, pick me one more block and I'll paypal your acc. Thanks, Terry

PayPal sent, sorry it took a few days been kinda crazy.

PS the other stuff arrived and it's awesome looking, even the little extra something :D.
