was looking at that advertisement magazine called 'tactial blade', and they have ads er articles on things nifty.

they had one on the becker extreme. i've been wondering about this blade for a while, and the article actually said a couple things which made me smile. the rest of the article was good pitch though :}

first off, the fit and finish on the blade is VERY good. there's **NO** coating, just a sort of finish i'd associate with a tumbler or something kinda bead-blasty. very smooth. the edge is apparently a double bevel and thin. ahaha. also those micarta scales.

now, S30V is spendy, sure, but they put more effort into making this than a coated typical becker. so, more effort, more $$$. reminds me a lot of the older original beckers. i expect in the next 5-10 years, people will seek this knife out more, but for the big $$$ they want for it... we'll see.

i like it. it's on my list now.

If I can ever find one in the $200 range, I might bite too. Passed one up at that price recently. Maybe another will come along.

i like my knives in tasty $100 or less units, though, yah, i have some that are not... oh boy. eyes :> but when bargain hunting, two digits are easier to take :> that's only a few "frosties" that way (wendy's commercial reference?)

i'd buy one used but not abused, i expect. funny, you don't see many used. wonder why. either wall hangers, or the owners are NOT letting them go after using. which? :>

same with those busse, sometimes you see a mid-sized blade, been through hell, nice price. only saw one user battle mistress (at a show), and the guy wanted almost new for it. bah.

I have held one. I like the Micarta handle feel, also they felt like they were larger than the standard handles. I especially like the sheath it comes with (I am a sucker for Nylon w/ Kydex insert sheaths - ever my first KaBar with the Eagle sheath!).

In my opinion, it is a large price jump just for the S30V blade (the Micarta handles can be ordered from Camillus and Spec Op sheaths are available).

Check out the below thread for good discussion on Micarta handles:

Nice pic, Tom.

Thanks to Tom, I've been putting the Camillus micarta scales on all my Becker users. I do like them better than the standard scales.

Went back and found that thread where the BK-77 sold. It went for $180 NIB. That was quite a good price. Almost wish now that I'd jumped on it.

I fear the Buck-80 days are over for that knife. The knife in the picture is my last one and I think it found a home here. I only wish I would have held on to the last BK6 that I sold. That was the best Machete that I ever held. The BK77 will be a show piece for me, I would have put the BK6 to work.

Let first say Hi to all members, as I am a new member! I have the Becker Extreme and could not be more pleased. For a "big" knife it handles very well,keeps an edge (it should) and has become my companion when hunting or camping. I "modified" the sheath to fit my needs but the knife is a great buy ($230.00) when compared to others with the same steel. Pricey? Yes, but fullfills my needs.

$230.00 is a great price, MSRP was $398.99. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

i love the micarta scales on that so much, i bought a couple sets. should get more shortly :) i think it would improve the handling of the patrol machete for bare hands, but i like the normal handles with gloves. good thing you can switch :}

A few weeks ago I had traded emais with Wendy Wilson at Camillus who gave me the $$. Yesterday, I tired to order a few sets today from Camillus over the phone and the could not place the order! Wendy left Camillus and her replacement is not back until next week! Darn!

The gal I talked to needed the part number which of course I did not have for just the Micarta handles. "Bladite" since you just placed an order do you happen to have the part number? Thanks.

Hello KnifeFury,

The person at Camillus is not Wendys replacment, She is an expert in the field and is a seasoned veteran. I have been dealing with Maureen for a while now. She knows the products inside and out. Maureen will be back Monday from what I understand. To make a long story short I can ship you the Micarta handles for the Becker knives. They are Camillus originals as seen on the BK77. email me if you need a set or two or more. I'll treat you right on the price.

CRKS is a great guy to deal with, any problems and he will make it right.
By the way... Tom would you happen to have a leg strap for a BK1 sheath?

Thank you "Mountainwind & CRKS"!

Maureen was the person they had mentioned. They put me to her voicemail so she should be calling me on Monday (unless she was out for too long and has many emails/voice mails when she gets back! - I know how that is :( )

Let me see if she calls me back, from what you said I have no doubts that she will! Since there is the 1 shipping charge of 11.95, I was going to snatch up 4 sets (2 for a buddy) to make me feel better about the shipping! :D Although, Just in case, I sent you ("CRKS") an email.

Hello Mountinwind,

I don’t have a regular leg strap, I use a piece of parachute cord for mine. It’s the same cord that I use to tie a pigtail on the Becker knives that I put the Micarta handles on (as seen on my website). If you can’t find any email me and I’ll ship you a piece, N.C.

I've bought 5, maybe 6, sets of scales from Tom. All good scales. I plan to put these on all my users.

I received my Micarta Handles from Tom (Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop) today (ordered them on Wednesday - FAST! :D ). Thanks Tom ("CRKS")!

Of course I had to buy some longer screws for the Brute. After some quality time at Lowes (since there speciality fastener drawers are a mess) a found three 10-24 x 3/4" SS Cap Screws / Nuts to use. Worked fine, a tad to long but not enough to feel them on the grip (maybe 1 to 1/2 mm of thread past the nut). Maybe one day I will take the cap screws to a grinding wheel to shave them a bit, but for now I am good to go!

The cap screw length was fine for my Patrol Machette.

Thanks again Tom for the fast service.

$180 is what I have found it for but still too much IMO. S30V is good in folders but not in fixed blades IMO. I would order it for you but I would have to be reimbursed for shipping etc.
