I was testing out a new katana yesterday by cutting tatami mats when I decided to try cutting a mat with my Fehrman Extreme Judgement. It went through the entire mat with almost scary ease. If you're not familiar with tatami, it's a weaved bamboo mat that is rolled and soaked in water then put on a stand and cut. It's a traditional target used in testing the cutting ability of Japanese Katana. A full mat is supposed to provide similar resistance as a human limb. Needless to say my sword made short work of the mats. But I was very extremely impressed with the ability of the E.J. I also tried to get through it with my Fallkniven Thor to no avail. It cut about 80% through. pretty impressive, but nothing like the E.J. It went through so well that next time I'm gonna try a two mat roll. Check out these pics.
