Extreme knife use

lungcutter, I was surprised too especially with a fully hardened blade. When bladesmiths do their bend test the hard edge is allowed to crack but the blade cannot break. Because it is differentially HTed the blade will bend 90 degrees and not break. Only the hard edge cracks. I knew eventually this blade would break from the stress being put on the area being bent. Four times is amazing. The fifth time I pushed it pass 50 degrees because I wanted it to break to look at the grain structure. Good grain structure, the steel at the break looks like velvet. You really need a microscope to see the actual grain in the steel.
I bent an 1/8" D2 blade many years ago to 30 degrees. That's pretty good for a steel like D2.
