Extreme Ratiooooooo

i'll post some deatail if I find the time and the old threads
what I mean is that for 100/150 euros they could even be good, but they are not if they cost 300-700 euros as they do

their marketing strategy with all that military thing is just cheating and selling crap to people, try to use them really hard, while costing like other good ones like BUSSE ( of those hard use that you know) or our NEXUS knives ( limited series of our forum)

compare them to ZT, strider and others, the slick aluminium, the steel, the thick edges and the steel cannot compete
as for the fixed ones i've personally tested a few and they resulted very poor, the USMC win 9/10 times at normal tasks like cutting, edge holding, even when thrown the usmc won  costing 1/6TH here

if you take a folder or 4-5" the steel is OK. not on a 7-8" chopper or any big knife
it is not the best steel out there and for the price they go it's a real STEAL of the consumers money

just some thoughts from me and other forumites, after testing and using them, they may good but NOT for the price they're sold, if you get a fixed one for 100/150USD and you like it, take it
but not for the money they aks!! ( at least here...)

Speed of deployment? What are you planning, a knife fight?
Just smack the guy with the closed knife and he's out cold.

lol yeah. I only own the RAO but you can put this knife in the other guy's pockets and throw him in the water.
He'll drown for sure. :D

It's by far the strongest folder I've got, rivaling some lighter fixed blades.

There is a review of the Adra dagger on Youtube by a gentleman named Blackforestghost or something.

The review shows the dagger to be relatively fragile. Granted a dagger isnt a "regular" use knife, but for the amount of bones you put for a knife like this I would expect more.

The plastic handle shatters relatively easily after moderate use.

Its worth a watch if you are interested in getting one of these knives.

I briefly had custody of a Col. Moschin (sp?) fixed blade. The fit, finish, and carry system were good. I didn't like the grip as well as many other knives I've used. Unfortunately, I never had an opportunity to test it so I don't know how they perform.

Oh yeah, there is a folder by Masters of Defense which has a secondary lock. Can't remember the name but I got the one with the gladd breaker in the front and mine is with a sterile blade.

I'm somewhat lost as to what purpose that video served.
I mean, I own 2 ER knives, and they work just fine.
Then again, I don't use fighting knives to do bushcraft, or stab lumber.

ER makes mostly fighting knives. So a wouldn't a reasonable test be one of balance, fit and finish, deployment speed, slashing ability etc?

I can't speak for everyone else, but I am really sick of people taking purpose-built tools, (i.e. fighting knives) and using them for silly things, then when it fails, the knife and the maker is crap.

ER makes nice knives, period. They are just fine IF used correctly.

CRKT has a secondary lock and so does Dark Ops which is a copy of ER just as the entire knife is.

I don't think you can classify the LAWKS as a secondary lock. It would be more apt to describe it as a lock to lock the lock. ;)

The RAO has two locks, either one of which is more than sufficient to keep the knife from folding. One is built-in, the other can be screwed in, but were the former to fail, or even be removed completely, the latter would still be a perfect - if cumbersome - lock.

I have a few ER knives and have found them to be pretty good, they are quite expensive but I didn't pay "full price" for mine. I know the agent for ER over here so I have a bit of an advantage there.

The knife I use the most is the little shrapnel fixed blade, It has been a great wee knife for every thing a small knife is good at. I have a few of the larger fixed blades too, like the short Kuk, Col. M. and a couple of daggers but haven't really used them that much. The folders I have are chunky tough peices and could easily take a beating IMO but again I haven't given them a great deal of use.

The N690 steel is a perfectly reasonable blade material IMO, I have found it to have fairly good edge retention and it is easy to sharpen too. I have my shrapnel convexed and it works very nicely indeed like that.

I have been pretty happy with the ones I have and would probably buy more.

I don't have any ER's, but the Bokers I have in this steel, N690CO, Boker calls it N690BO, have sharpened up very nicely, held that edge and I like the steel a lot. I have not found it lacking for what I use a knife for, and I feel it is a lot like 154CM.

I own an Extrema Ratio Col Moschin fixed blade, I have had it for about a year and have used it extensively. It has a nice blade profile and it will sharpen to a razor's edge, but I would not classify it as a hard use knife. For one the tip is very thin and I was always afraid it was going to break off during stabbing or chopping, although it never did.
The handle IMHO is complete shit for such an expensive knife, it will peel off with a scrape of your finger nail. As far as the sheath it is excellent, I can not think of a better sheath than this one. It fits comfortably on your leg and does not move at all. Overall it is a great cutting knife and small camp knife if you don't do any kind of chopping with it.
It is a nice knife and I do not regret buying it, but if you want a hard use knife buy a Busse, Strider, Grayman, MercWorx, or something along those lines.

My own personal experience with E.R.
I bought two, a Fulcrum C. and an MFO.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/907430-Extrema-Ratio-knives?p=10996269#post10996269

I quickly sold the first one (Fulcrum C.) after I discovered that my pinky and part of my hand were completely off the knife if held with my thumb on the jimping, which are more like thick notches.
I have a small hand and the knife is the "chopped down" version of the Fulcrum which I knew when I purchased it, but to have my pinky hang off the knife like that was not acceptable to me and I sold it on Ebay.

The second knife, the MFO... I like it and hate it at the same time.
What I like is the tough small bulldog like shape, the sound it makes clicking into 'open', the secondary red safety switch, the small glass breaker built into the back,
the matte black finish and the tacti-cool look in general.

What I hate about the MFO is that it (at least the one I have) is not easy to close the blade using the incredibly stiff liner lock, I have to get just the exact angle to disengage it and it's actually painfully sharp against my thumb, the metal is so hard and stiff I have to really exert a lot of pressure.
But the worst thing about the knife (and this is only my personal experience with it).... is as mentioned in my post (link above), if i put this MFO in my back pack, down in my pocket or into a fanny pack.... if I reach in to get it and any part of my hand touches the "flipper".... the blade comes out much too easily, as the detente on it barely exists.
I can easily slice the crap out of my finger/s or hand.
I had to fabricate a safety band out of a thin racing tire inner tube (photo in above post link) in order to confidently throw it into my back pack or pocket and not have to worry that it will be slightly open when I stick my hand in to get change or my wallet.

I've put the knife up on Ebay twice... wanting to sell it, yet at the same time hoping it would not sell because I like it strictly as a collection piece.
While I have no ill feelings about E.R. the company or their knives, I would not purchase another E.R. again.
