Extremely Impressed!

I just got my first Spyderco on Saturday, and I just wanted to say that I am extremely impressed with this knife. I picked up the Manix 2 lightweight, and I was never overly fond of the holes. This knife has changed my mind, and not to mention that it was EXTREMELY sharp out of the box. That is more than I can say for knives from other companies that I have bought.

You're referring to the Spydie hole? You've just opened up a whole new world.

Yes, always like thumb studs before. After playing with this knife I can see why so many people like the Spydie hole.

Great choice the LW is a fine example! I have the translucent blue one and its one of my favorites.

The hole will continue to grow on you...wait, it'll stay the same size, but you'll like it more as time passes. I've gotten so used to the hole I don't even like thumb stud's anymore.

Thanks, I looked at the translucent one, but GP only had the partially serrated version in stock. I prefer the plain edge myself so I went with the black.

Quick question: I tried doing the middle finger flick today, and it did not want to flip open much past 3/4 of the way open. Is that because its still new and has not been open and closed a whole lot yet? I have noticed that it is easier than when I first got it.

* Hole new world*
OP, I got one of these for my wife in return for a carbon fiber scale I made somebody. I had the XL and have since sold it.
The lightweight is just more EDC friendly and super smooth and tough. Hers is blue. But either way. Good for you pal!
Matt

You've just opened up a whole new world.

I find the ball-bearing lock hard to flick open. Even when broken in. The detent is rather strong. I can do it with my Dodo, but not so much with my Manix 2s. The Dodo is much smaller, I'm sure that's the difference.

This is what I was wondering. Like I said it has gotten easier since I got it, but not as easy as some of the videos I have seen.

In my experience, most everyone who thinks the hole is ugly or thinks they won't like it, loves it when actually handling it. I only know one person who prefers a thumbstud to the hole because he claims he can't open the blade right and has almost cut himself. And I'm thinking, "how are you opening the thing..with your feet???"

I had owned a couple of the G10 and steel Manix 2s before buying a Lightweight and I was shocked at how good the polymer Manix 2 is. It is in my pocket today...

It is different for sure, but it is a good change. I really only edc 3 knives. 2 are folders seen above and then occasionally my bk14 on weekends. This new one has been with me all week.
