Harry,

Great pictures, but I have one question. On the ChanpurrI (I know I'm spelling it wrong, but presently I don't have the presence of mind to fix it) Who made the brown leather scabbard? Is this terry'work or did jag and prem have this scabbard made? It looks kind of marbled and I love it.

Krem

Krem, the leather work on the Dui Chirra Chainpuri was done by the Sarki with no name. I asked for a brown leather covered sheath and what you see is the end result due to the way the leather was tanned. I got the inspiration from seeing an HI AK Bowie (HI 's version of the Bird and Trout knife) with a brown scabbard, checked with Uncle Bill and BirGhorka if it could be done, and the rest is history...

Harry I really, really do like what was done with my design!!!!!!!
That is Beyond Gorgeous!!!!!!!

snip!

Now a couple or so questions if you don't mind.:).........

How thick is the spine?

What's the width of the blade at the widest part of the belly?

What's the width of the blade at the bolster?

Is it possible to tell how thick the blade is in the center of the fullers? A WAG will do.:)

And what's the thickness at the top of the edge bevel?

Spine thickness is about 3/8ths of an inch from the bolster to half way to the tip and then gradually goes to 1/4 of an inch about 1 inch from the tip.

Width of blade at widest part of belly is 3.25 inches.

Thickness of blade at deepest part of both fullers averages around 1/4 inch.

Thickness at the top of the edge bevel is about 3/16ths of an inch.

I have not taken it out to see how it chops, but it feels good in my hand or hands( I have medium large hands). Compared to a theoretical 30 inch Ang Khola this is more of a slicer and I would think that it would do well for it's intended purpose of water buffalo sacrifice. Might also be good for a heavy duty brush slicer and would give anyone a workout wielding this 4.4 pound baby.

Eventually I plan to etch it with ferric chloride to see what kind of temper line shows up.

Given how long the blade is, I am surprised how straight Sanu was able to keep this blade. And along with that, it is symmetrical on both sides of the spine.

Any other questions?

Harry

Ah, your typical squabbling, bickering, contentious family that can't settle down til someone from outside criticises one of their own and then out come the shelleghlis and war clubs.

Was it not Robert Service who noted:

"For sure it is an awful spite, and aching to the heart;

For an Irishman to watch a fight, and not be taking part!"

subhaana-Allaah .................

harry - it must be a very charming person inside you ...

"And pity the Irish, whom God has made mad,

Their wars are all happy

Their songs are all sad ".
