im with will52100, last year i was grinding with out glasses and a sliver of steel shot into my cornea. i did not know that it was embeded in my eye and thought i just scratched it. well 3 weeks later i was allmost blind and light was very painfull. doc found and removed the steel and he told me it had started to rust and was infecting the area around it. so i where glasses every time i do anything.

Moderators, this might be a good candidate for the "info for newbies" list.

We should document the list of links that son_of_bluegrass posted, because many people can benefit from it in the future.

I don't think it was CO2, because the garage door was wide open, and my forge is only 2 feet from the door. I always have a small fan blowing from the adjacent\e corner of the garage to ensure there is adequate air flow.

Everyone, thanks for all your input.

Here is what I found at the welding store. Protects against UV and IR. If nothing else don't look into the forge for long periods of time. Used the visor today and it worked great.

Cool, I'll have to check out Nordan next time I'm in town and see if I can find something like that. I normaly just wear dark safty glasses and don't lookin in the forge, but there's no sense not getting some thing like that.
