Being able to get everything from one supplier is a real pain.

I need some 1/4" eyelet dies for Kydex rivets. USA knifemaker has them for $45, Knifekits has them for $35. USA does not have black kydex in .080" but does have a padded knife case in the size I need. Knifekits has the dies and the kydex but does not sell the size of padde knife case I need.....Ugh

If USA knifemaker had black kydex I would be all set and now I am staring at my computer weighing my options....

Now that aside. Is there a vast difference in the kydex dies between USA knifemaker and Knifekits?

I need some kind of tie breaker here

Thanks

I have the USAknifemaker dies (3/16 AND 1/4) and couldn't be happier with them myself.... but I've never compared them with anything else either.

That being said, when I calculated knifekits.com die prices plus shipping, and then USAknifemaker.com's final price (along with the several other items I was ordering at the time), the difference in price was negligible. In otherwords, I was already paying to have other items shipped from USAknifemaker.com, so I didn't fact that into cost, but I would have only needed the dies from knifekits. Either way, I'd be paying close to $45 for dies, so I may as well have gotten them from Tracy, even if it was an extra $4 or so.

Is there a huge difference between the two? Probabaly not. I believe Tracy has a picture showing a comparison between the two, and claiming that his are better, but he may be a little biased as well. ;)

I would guess that you'll be more than happy with either set.

I just wish USA Knifemaker had black Kydex. If they did I would have ordered already.

I am really surprised he does not have it.

He does have black boltaron, which I'm my experience is actually a little nicer than kydex.

I think it works and forms a little nicer anyway... you should try it out.

Tru-Grit usually has black Kydex if you're in the neighborhood.

You are right. I will have to check with them. Last time I was there they had .065 and .093. But did not carry .080

I have the knifekits journeyman dies and they seem to work quite well ($24.95). I don't use them with the optional guide however, so I have to be sure to centre/align my rivets before I flare them.

Now that aside. Is there a vast difference in the kydex dies between USA knifemaker and Knifekits?

In a word, Yes.
I was splitting every other 3/16 rivet with my knifekits dies. Next I bought another pair of dies from knifekits hoping my problems would go away. THey did not.
I next tried different vendors of 3/16 rivets, problems still there.
I finally bought some usa knifemaker dies. I now never get split 3/16 rivets.
So yes there is a difference.

LOL I was in Tru-Grit last week and they had a big discussion with another customer about eyelet sizes and types and kydex thicknesses, etc. I think they started carrying another thickness (possibly .080) and the guy's rivets weren't matching up.
