What type faceshields do you like, I have one by Fibermetal that is large wraparound type and has a cap over the top of your face. The problem is the clear shields themselves scratch easily. Anybody know of a better product?

I wish I knew of a face shield that didn't scratch up!!! I riveted mine to a hard hat and have to change it out a time ot two a year. I think the next one I get, I'm either gonna try to find a lexan shield or see if saran wrap will stick to the front of the shield and stay flat so I can see thru it. Maybe that would keep it clean for a little longer.

Mike,
Here is a $$$$$ saving tip for your faceshield AND your?? sandblast cabinet window!!
I tape a sheet of clear acitate sheet to my faceshieid and to my sandblast cabinet windows. The sheets are availble at office supply stores, used for overhead projector slides. Once they get dirty and scratched I just tear them off and replace with new. I got tired of cutting glass windows for my sandblasters. I've had the same glass in them for about 2 years now and only change the plastic sheets.
My face sheilds hold up well while friction sawing and using new coarse grinding belts.

Thanks Neil, I remember seeing dirt track racers use that method after you reminded me. I'll give it a try

Dr. H. in one of his books advises use of a wire MESH face shield. I believe I have seen these in McMaster Carr catalog. These provide protection from flying stuff, and radient heat, but still allow ventilation, and you don't have the scratch problem. You dont even see it, if you wear prescription glasses you will known what I mean; you just focus past it.

Okay guys,
Don't laugh but this thing works. The top picture is a front view, the bottom picture is a side view with the rear shroud lifted so the fans (yes fans) may be viewed. This is what orthopaedic surgeons use.
This shield or hood has three fans ran from a battery pack. The face shield does not fog up, the shroud or covering in the rear provides filtering to some degree. I am in the process of adding additional filter element to the fans. The darn thing stays cool!
